My brother's birthday is coming up very soon, and I am currently living in Ireland and wanted to send him something from here. Also, his girlfriend's birthday is right after his, so I'll send her something too. What are some good Irish gifts to send? I wanted to make him sort of a gift basket with all sorts of different Irish alcohols, (Guinness, Beamish, Murpheys, Bulmers..) but I don't think you can ship alcohol easily. Any ideas? It's his 21st. Also, I'll probably get a small souvenir for my little brother too. Any suggestions on that? Thanks!

Answer
I would definately recommend a claddagh ring for your brothers girlfriend, it's the most traditional Irish gift for women. tell her when she wears it, that the bottom of the heart should point towards the back of her hand to show she is in love with someone( this is very traditional ) if a girl is single then the heart should point towards the finger tip.

for your brothers, there are lots of souvenir shops around, the gift basket is a good idea but you don't have to send alcohol.

what can i bring home to ireland from germany?

Rebecca

hey im going on the history trip to germany+poland with my school, but i want to do some christmas shopping! :D can I bring back food and gifts to Ireland from Germany and poland? I think ill be flying back from poland, but can I do that or will my stuff be confiscated at the airport???

Answer
You'll have no problem bringing food back to Ireland from either Poland or Germany as their both E.U countries. My Mam travels to Germany and Hungary a lot and always brings over a pound of everyday sausages and a pound of galtee rashers with her from Ireland :) (ya have to love the Irish mammies) so there's no problem with the food being confiscated or anything.

Make sure to check out the Christmas Markets in Germany and Poland there fab and will be full of souvenirs/gifts that you wouldn't really get over here, They always have plenty of gingerbread and marzipan sweets which may be an acquired taste but come in cool shapes and nice packaging so they make nice presents, plus they're cheap! Also at the christmas markets they do beautiful sometimes very unusual cribs/nativety scenes which also make nice gifts.

Have a great trip
