Answer
I'm not sure where you live or if there are "Things Remembered" stores at your mall but you can check them out online. They have a lot of great gift ideas that you can have engraved rather inexpensively. In particular, they have a key chain that has a thumb drive on it- you know, a storage device for computer files. If he's 17 and kinda techy, this would be perfect! Here's a link to it:

Gift for 17-year old girl (under $25)?

mj365

I'm in a office Secret Santa program benefitting a local charity and I'm supposed to buy a gift for a 17-year old girl with a $25 spending cap. All I know about her is her shirt size. Suggestions would be appreciated!

Answer
she'll appreciate clothes, but it might be a little risky in terms of her taste..i'd stick with scarfs (they sell really soft ones at longs). Girls also like bath and body works or the body shop, and you could just pick up a gift already put together.
Books (princess diaries, prep, all american girl, georgia nicolson series..witty novels that attract teen girls)
a cd (if you know what she likes)
dvd (cute movies like the notebook)
ALSO go to gifts.com..it's amazing how many unique ideas they have..you can select "teen girls" and go from there. believe me, i looked at the gifts and It pleased me to see how accuratly they showed what we like!

collage of pictures gift for love ones.?

Ian Victor

Did you guys create a collage of pictures as a gift to your loved ones? What was the reaction? Is there any blog that writes about collage of pictures? I am seeing blogs but all are collage software.

Answer
I usually give gifts to the people I love. and I want to make sure that they are happy about it. This valentine day, I made a collage of pictures of all the funny, and happy moments of my loved one and me together and created a heart shape for that. It took me a while to do it but the effort was well worth it as the dearest person to me loved it very much. I was also able to find out a resource for you.

i want to have my 35th birthday party at home. can any one help me with a theme such as,live at 35 or somethng?

natosha m

help!

Answer
Well there is the 1970s theme... but likely you would have had friends who have already done that in birthdays past - it's pretty common.

You could do a more specific theme from the 1970s such as Disco or Hippy or musicians.

Otherwise you could do Survive 35 - and have gift bags/survival kits for everyone of silly things that help you keep young (ie excersize mat, moisturisers, etc)

35 Jive - you could have a latin dance themed party

35 Drive - a car trip to somewhere? Or a limo trip around the city... etc

'How sweet you seem at 35' (rolling stones lyrics) - do a dessert themed party

'Ballad at 35' (song by carla bruni) - maybe go do kareoke or something?!

how should i celebrate my 35th birthday tomorrow?

sarava

Answer
You should indeed. The greatest gift any person is ever given is their life. 35 yrs ago you were give that gift. Love it & celebrate it. Oh! Have a very Happy Birthaday.

80th birthday gift?

futurefash

My grandmas 80th birthday is comming up and I am very close to her and although her party invitation said no gifts I still feel the need to get her somthing. I see her at least 3 times a week. She does a lot of sewing and embroidery but she has everything she needs for that. She occasionally bakes. She likes game shows such as Jeopardy, Millionaire, and Wheel of Fortune if that helps at all. She watches QVC a lot. She likes Carol Higgins Clark and Mary Higgins Clark but I think she's read all of their books. The top things she wants are a massager chair and a kitchen aid mixer but those are both too expenseive. Any ideas? This is comming from a 13 year old if that helps.
Joey Starr I like that idea. She loves cheese and I know her favorite kinds that she rarely buys because they are kind of expensive but I would be able to afford it.

Answer
It's hard to buy good stuff for someone knowing they could die of old age soon and someone else will wind up with it. That's why I get edible stuff. Get her some of her favorite candies.

Can you Please Help? Gift Ideas for an amazing Japanese Woman?

jonah-hill

Not long I met a Japanese girl who is pretty amazing, and she sent me an Electric Hand Warmer Gift for my Birthday, it must of cost her £40-£50 including postage from Japan to UK.
So it is her Birthday Next week and I cannot think of any ideas on what to get her, she is somewhat a perfectionist and I am struggling to find anything good for her. I don't want to get her perfume, clothes or jewelry because I don't know her well enough to know what she likes and these things are more personal in my eyes and easy to get wrong.
So how can I match the present she got for me?
I know she loves things that involve massage, aromatherapy and she loves her high end skin care, but I cannot find anythings suitable for her. I am worried incase I get her the wrong thing. Any Ideas?
£30-£50 gifts

Answer
Next week? I doubt if your package can make it.
Anyway, give her cute fashion accessories like bags. Many Japanese women are obsessed in designer bags. Try asking help from your sister or female friends.
Or skin care products but beware, I usually don't give skin care products because we don't know if she's allergic to certain kinds.

Advice for Japanese customs?

Anna

I am a rising senior and rising J2 student in high school (as well as an anime nerd) and am participating in a Kankei/Nagoya University exchange program (starting June 30, 2011). We will spend a week at Hokuryou High school being hosted by students, and another week traveling across Shikoku and Hokkaido. I was wondering if there were any little customs the Japanese (or certain areas of Japan) have that most Americans donât know about. Specifically, I was wondering about:

-gifts for my host family. What would be appropriate gifts? How much should I generally spend on them? (dollar amount please) how and when should I give them to the family. And what type of wrapping paper should I use?
If it helps, I live near the University of North Carolina

-the small trays in some stores at check out. I understand that I will be expected to put the money I will pay for an item on the tray and except my change an receipt, but when would it be appropriate to put the money down and how long should I wait till picking up the change (1 second, 3 seconds, ½ a second?)
If I walk up to the register after choosing to buy something, I will probably be intimidated by the tray ^^â It would help me (and the stores business) to know what exactly I should do

-anything involving public baths. Especially if it would be rude to ask the hosts to go to one that allows women to be covered.

- asking for help or directions. I know itâs customary to give a small gift, such as a stick of gum, to someone who helps me, but how should I ask? And what else should I do to show my appreciation.

-how specific recycling is. I understand the Japanese can find recycling to be important, so I was wondering if there is something on the bin that distinguishes between paper, glass, and plastic.

-and any other little details that are important

I have also been exchanging emails with my host and try to send her a copy that I attempt to translate. If anyone could tell me how to say the equivalence of âDear such-and-suchâ it would be appreciated ^^ (please no google translate, Iâm not that dumb.)

Thank you for your help!

Answer
Gifts

Small token gifts that are from your home country are always appreciated. Consider popular snacks, such as sweets or small cakes, or local handicrafts. I'm from the UK and I found that postcards of London and Oxford were appreciated by some people, as well as Dairy Milk chocolate, little tins of loose tea from Harrods, and packets of shortbread. Try not too spend too much as the Japanese put a lot of stock into reciprocation and often feel obliged to give you a gift in return if it is not clear why you have spent so much, or the intention behind a gift. It really is the thought that counts. That said, the Japanese love to wrap even tiny presents very nicely, so take some care when you choose wrapping paper. Do not wrap anything in white paper (symbolises death), and don't overdo it with bows and ribbons. Simple and elegant is best.
Think about bringing some university souvenirs. I know that little keyrings and such with my university's name on went over well.

Taking your change in stores

Don't worry about this so much :) When the cashier states how much your purchases cost, or you read the figure on the till display, simply put the money down in the tray. The cashier will count (for your benefit) both your total payment, and then the change. In places like conbini's, or supermarkets, you will often be handed your change. A simple nod, and a 'hai' or 'doumo' will suffice - just take your change. In some shops, the cashier will take the tray away and deposit the change in it. You don't need to wait. Again, just a simple 'doumo', and take your change. There's really no need to worry yourself about protocol here, it will be very clear.

Public baths (sento/onsen)

You cannot cover yourself up in a public bath, and your hosts may be a bit confused if you ask to be taken to one where you can be covered up. If it is a big problem for you, state it at the offset as politely as you can. There's a good chance your hosts will have experience this problem for; it is fairly common for foreigners to worry about public nudity at the onsen. If you can get yourself past it, I advise you just go for it.
Essentially, you will be guided by your hosts to the appropriate bath for women/men. It will be possible to buy soap, but you should probably take your own towel. Simply undress and wash thoroughly at the basin or shower provided. Ensure you have rinsed off all the soap, as it is not a good idea to get soap into the bath. Once that's done, you can enjoy the onsen. If you're unsure, discreetly watch the other women to know how to behave, or ask your hosts for assistance - they will be happy to give you advice.

Help or directions

I'm not sure where you got the advice about giving a gift for directions, but I can assure you that this isn't the case. They will probably find it strange if you attempt to do so.

Your questions might be more complex, but here's a few general questions.

'Excuse me, where is the station?'
'Sumimasen, eki wa dochira desu ka?

'Excuse me, is there a bank here?'
'Sumimasen, kochira ni ginko ga arimasu ka?'

'Excuse me, do you have the time?'
'Sumimasen, ima nanji desu ka?'

Sumimasen is a magical word. Use it to excuse yourself, to say hello (in certain situations), to attract attention and to apologise. Also make sure to bow slightly when greeting, asking for help, and thanking. Even if you have trouble with your language, most friendly Japanese people will understand that you are trying your best to be polite to them - this matters a lot.

Recycling

A big thing in Japan, but unless you're becoming a resident, it won't be a big issue for you. Just watch out for separating things like paper, plastic, glass and cans. Your hosts will generally dispose of your rubbish for you, so I wouldn't worry about that on your trip. If recycling bins are available, look out for ç´ãpaper ã«ã³ cans çãããã¿ burnable garbage ãããããã« PET bottles.

Other general advice:
- Serve other people before you serve yourself, unless you're in a very comfortable atmosphere
- Be punctual
- Don't be too outwardly negative or critical
- Take your shoes off when entering a home
- Ask! Don't be afraid to ask your Japanese hosts for a little help - they know that you aren't used to the culture and will strive to help you avoid any serious faux pas. That said, you most likely won't have any issues unless you go out of your way to be culturally insensitive.

To begin a letter - _______-san e (____ãããã¸ï¼

Additionally, Shikoku is a wonderfully friendly place and its residents are kind and welcoming to foreigners. If in Ehime, check out Dogo Onsen (the inspiration of Spirited Away), have some Botchan Dango, and enjoy the mikan.

Comp geeks help me get my man a gift?

sentfromhe

The guy I'm dating is having his 28th Bday this weekend. I want to get him some good little gifts. He is a computer tech and loves his sports cars (has 2). He is pretty much loaded and I am not, so I can't really impress him with an expensive gift. I plan to cook for him a great meal, put on a sexy dance and all that sweet stuff, but I wanted to get him a gadget gift. He is "on call" for work alot and carries his lap with him 24-7. He picks up wireless to log on if he is not home for his support job. I saw this keychain that detects hot spots, is this a good gift or lame? I am not a comp geek (to bad they rock) and thus need help on deciding if this is cool or not. Any other under 50$ gift ideas are welcome. Thanks so much! Geeks RULE!

Answer
Heh, I bet he already has a flash drive :-)

You could still buy him a 4 Gig flashdrive, go to www.portableapps.com and install the portable apps suite into the new pen drive... that would be a nice gift. Easy to install, do not worry. Just save the installation kit just in case...

I like how persuasive you can be :-) Sent From heaven :)
That is a nice gift actually, him lucky b..., guy... I would be happy only with the sexy dance...

The keychain would do :-)

Think of what he needs or try to persuade him into telling you what he would need... The best gifts are the ones you trully need.

Ask a friend of him to tell him that he bought X item for his laptop...what would he like to buy/get...maybe he tells his friend what would be a good gift :)

do people really get gifts at the bridal shower and the wedding day?

estrellita

im from Spain and so we don't have Bridal showers, but the more i read websites i see its VERY popular in America and people seem to get gifts for both the shower and the wedding day, now is it just me or does this seem VERY greedy?
i mean why do people need to give 2 gifts? even if they arent big girfts its still ends up a lot of money.
is this really what happens?
but if its "typical" then people will clearly feel obligated to get one for both as they dont want to look bad as its your custom. so its a little greedy yes
dont you have registries though to?
isnt that where you choose the store and items you want guests to buy? that my understanding and so people wouldnt really have much choice on cost as you have alreay picked the item/cost

Answer
What the vendors of The Wedding Industry say is "the right thing to do" and what true etiquette experts like Emily Post and Miss Manners tell us is CORRECT ... these are very different things. Traditionally a shower was a lot like a surprise birthday party. There wasn't a shower for every wedding anymore than there is a surprise party for every birthday. If there was some group of acquaintances who wanted to give the bride a pleasant surprise, they would pool their money to get some light refreshments, a roll of crepe paper, and a Grand Prize. Guests got to snack, play silly games for cheap silly prizes, and one of the lucky guests won the Grand Prize.

The bride absolutely had no part in planning a shower. As you say, it is greedy to give a shower for a member of ones own family, or even ones soon to be family. When people spontaneously wish to shower the bride with gifts, that is one matter, but to try to engineer such a group by "mining" the wedding guest would once have been considered quite rude. Excepting close relatives and bridesmaids, perhaps one or two dear friends, no once should be attending both wedding and shower. For example shower invitations might go to every member of the brides bowling league or to everyone in her office or to her neighbors, but they would NOT be issued to a group with no common characteristic other than being on the wedding guest list.

That is more or less the description of a CORRECT shower. As far as I can determine, The Wedding Industry is promoting a model in which "The Shower" is as much a part of EVERY wedding as flowers and cake. In this model, lacking that group of generous well wishes who VOLUNTEER to shower the bride with gifts, the poor Maid of Honor is given the humiliating task of attempting to engineer such a group. She does this by begging wedding guests she hardly knows to join her and the bride in a pretence of their WANTING to attend an extra party and give an extra gift.

The Wedding Industry also promotes the idea that it is "rude" to refuse a shower invitation, and that one is somehow obliged to send a gift when ever one receives a shower or wedding invitation. This is nonsense. It is never rude to decline an invitation, and one need not give a reason. "[Name] regrets being unable to attend" is all one ever need say. Gifts are required ONLY if one ATTENDS a shower. (A gift is also required if one attends the birthday party of a small child.)

Further The Wedding Industry has purposely confused showers with The Bridal Luncheon, which was often a chic and dressy affair. We are told that simply gathering in a bridemaid's parents' home for brownies and soft drinks is "tacky" and that "the right thing" is for someone to rent a hall or book a restaurant. The idea is promoted that escalating the level of the party leads to escalating the level of the guests' gift giving, I suppose. Theoretically, the bridesmaids pay for all this, as if buying a dress you hate isn't enough expense. The end goal is to induce people to spend more and more money on party items, on gifts, on gift wrap, and so on, to create parties where none previously existed. This is how The Wedding Industry sells merchandice.

Wedding gifts should be sent before or after the wedding, not brought to the party. (Don't the hosts already have enough to do?) There are two reasons for giving a wedding gift. One is purely wanting to gift someone for an important event. The other is to say "I enjoyed your party very much, and thank you for inviting me." Guests are obliged to send a thank you LETTER, but saying thank you with a gift is not technically required. However it IS very much the custom, and I advise everyone who attends a wedding to send at least some sort of modest gift as a token of thanks.

I hope this was helpful.

Bridal Shower Gift...?

Diane

Am I supposed to bring a gift from the couple's registry to the bridal shower, or is that gift for the wedding? Or does each event require a separate gift?
Thanks girls, you've been very helpful but I'm still confused as to whether the gift I'm bringing with me to the bridal shower should be from the registry, or if it's supposed to be a gift just for the bride?

Answer
If you attend a shower, you must bring a gift with you.

The registry is supposed to be a convenience for guests, to help them know what the couple would appreciate. If one prefers to give something else, something not on the register, it would be very rude of the recipient to find fault.

Technically, wedding gifts are not required. What is required is a handwritten letter or note thanking the hosts for giving such a wonderful party. If a party is especially wonderful, then one sends a gift along with or instead of the letter. While it is not absolutely required, it is very usual for wedding reception guests to find the party to be especially wonderful and to say thank you with a gift.

You didn't ask, but let me add that Miss Manners discourages guests from bringing gifts to wedding receptions. She advises us that hosts are already very busy and it would probably be inconvenient for them to guard gifts from theft, to keep track of who gave what, to schlepp it all home later. She suggest sending gifts either before the wedding or after the honeymoon.

Being a mean old bat, I generally choose a gift after the reception. That way, I can be more generous to those couples who are more considerate of their guests and less generous to those who treat guests with little consideration.

My boyfriend is a huge Leeds Fan ( i know not the best team in the world but he likes them all the same) so for his birthday i wanted to get him something special so i splashed out on a signed leeds shirt and had it framed, he loved it and now it has prode of place in our front room even though i am a Man united fan, the point i'm trying to make is its not about how much you spend it's about the thought and time you have taken to choose the right give, get him something to do with what he likes, what he's interested in and he will be extremely greatful.

Starving Student Food Aid?

CallahanCC

Any ideas what could I put in a package for a starving vegetarian student in Leeds for her birthday?

Answer
packets of pasta, tinned or dried veggies, beans, peas, lentils, couscous, cocoa (who doesn't like cocoa?), teas, rice packets, spices, seasonings, or anything you could keep in dry storage would work. It can be tough to package and ship fresh foods.

I just thought of this, if there is a large market nearby (kroger stores here is a good example), they often offer gift cards that you can purchase online and have shipped anywhere. You could check to see if any of her local markets have that option.

But I think a more personalized package is the nicest gesture, so maybe have the card sent to you and put it in the package too. That way she gets a package of assorted dry goods you chose (we all love getting packages), but can still purchase the fresh stuff needed to make full meals.

what is the nine gifts from god?

Answer
Gift of...
1. wisdom
2. knowledge,
3. faith
4. healing
5. miracles
6. prophecy
7. discernment
8. speaking in tongue
9. interpretation of tongue

1 Corinthians 12:8-10
To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

Although 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 only list nine gifts, please know that there are more than nine gifts. The list of nine gifts is only a suggestive list. As seen in the Old Testament with Joseph, he had the gift of dream interpretation (this gift still exists today). In 1 Peter 4:9-10, hospitality is also described as a gift from God. Even with the gift of healing, it can be divided into three gifts - spiritual healing, emotional healing, and physical healing. Compassion can also be a gift (today, on 700 Club interactive, a person was commenting on how the caller has the gift of compassion).

9th wedding anniversary gift to my wife?

Bob

My wife is away and we will not be at the same place for our anniversary. Unfortunately we didn't have much choice. She simply loves flowers so is it OK to send flowers and sweets to her on the day of our anniversary?

Answer
I don't know if you are home and have access to this, but if you do, find a picture from your wedding day where your wife is holding her bouquet. Take that picture to a florist and have them make an arrangement for her using the same flowers and colors; have them delivered with a card with the lyrics to the song you danced to. This will bring tears to her eyes and a smile to her face.
Happy 9 years!

Appropriate retirement present?

rockerchic

My friend's step dad is retiring from 30+ years of Military service and i would like to get him a gift the thank him for serving our country. Would it be appropriate to give him a gift card to restaurant so that he and his wife(my friend's mom) could go out for a nice dinner?
I'm a college student and can really only afford $40-$50, Also because I have moved away to college the gift would have to be mailed

Answer
Actually, this is such a good question. Traditionally the gift on retirement for a male was a clock or watch and for a woman silverware. Aside from the sexism of this, the practicality has always struck me as questionable, at best. By the time most people retire they have the silverware and clocks and watches that were needful to them. A gift is a gift, of course, and should always be received with appreciation and acknowledged with a thank- you letter.

That being said, I think your idea is great! Who wouldn't like a gift card to a restaurant? Or a gift card to a book store or particular store that you know he likes. But, again, you cannot go wrong with a restaurant.

Bless your heart for thinking of him and his years of service.

Gift For Fiance'---MEN and Women Please Help!!!!?

here is the deal, i am getting married June 2nd to the man of my dreams! i am stuck and i have been racking my mind for a few weeks now about a gift for him before the wedding! If you have any ideas PLEASE send them to me. he is a very hard person to buy for. i would like to spend $200.00 - $300.00 for his gift. I just dont have any ideas, and when i get an idea he goes and buys what i was going to get him. so i guess what i am really asking for is an idea that he would never think of lol... i know its hard! thanks for any help or ideas in advance!

Answer
I am in the same boat sort of as you, however I am looking for my future wife (5/27/07 - both of our times are coming quick!!).

Well I will try and help because men can be very difficult.

1st it is all about what he likes and NOT what you want him to like. If he is a cigar smoker, some good cigars and engraved lighter (the blue flames are the good ones) and clipper will be great. Even if you hate him smoking cigars, this is something HE LIKES.

Golfers (here is what I am hinting for), would really like personalized balls. A box of NXTs engraved with something funny or sweet or even perverted depending on your relationship. These are inexpensive so if he is a golfer, get a bunch of gift certificate for free rounds.

Other sports fans, tickets or memorablia are always loved. Memorabilia is actually tangible but you can always do a combo here.

Guys, atleast the ones I know, do not work gifts. We do not want clothes. We like watches but only if is better then our most expensive or on par with our casual watch(es). I have a Movado. If my fiance bought me a Guess, I would love it because she gave it to me but it will not be a WOW gift. If she bought me a Cartier, it would be a WOW gift (also a 5,000 wow gift).

Guys like things that we will not just go out and buy for ourselves. So you know you man, what are the things he likes? If you add information, I will give better ideas. Other then that, what can he NOT bring himself to buy because he just refuses to spend the money on it? That is the gift!

Expired gift certificates in Illinois?

Cassie C

What is the current law in Illinois regarding an expired gift certificate?

Answer
Illinois residents who received gift cards this holiday season may be able to redeem them for cash even if the gift cards expire, Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias said today.

The Treasurerâs Office is holding more than $5 million in unused gift card balances for Illinois residents.

Giannouliasâ announcement comes after a record year in gift card sales and in advance of a new law which aims to make gift cards more consumer-friendly. As of Jan. 1, gift cards must not expire for five years after issuance and cannot charge fees which diminish their value.

âIn Illinois, gift cards never stop giving,â Giannoulias said. âEven when gift cards expire, consumers can recover their money from the state.â

Owners of expired gift cards can search for their refunds on the stateâs unclaimed property database at www.cashdash.net or call (866) 458-7327. Even if a name isnât listed, the state may still have a personâs unused balance.

Most gift card retailers do not record the name or contact information for the purchaser or recipient. The unredeemed balances come to the state marked as âowner unknown.â In such cases, the purchaser or recipient must file a claim with the Treasurerâs Office using the serial number on the expired gift card.

Unfortunately not all retailers who do business in Illinois send unclaimed gift card balances to the Treasurer. Unused gift card balances are sometimes remitted to the state where the retailer is incorporated. Thatâs one reason why the new gift card law is a win for Illinois consumers, said state Rep. Jack Franks of Woodstock who sponsored the legislation.

âOur goal was to put an end to the gift that keeps on taking,â Franks said. âThat money needs to stay in the pockets of consumers.â

An estimated $8 billion in gift cards went unused in the U.S. in 2006, according to TowerGroup, a research firm in Needham, Mass.

Similarly, a recent Consumer Reports National Research Center survey found that 27 percent of adults who received gift cards during the 2006 holiday season had not used one or more of them nearly a year later. That is an increase from 2005, when 19 percent of consumers had one or more unused gift cards.

Over one-third of those respondents said they didn't use the cards because they either forgot about them, lost them, or the cards had expired, according to Consumer Reports. More often, people said they didn't have time to shop or couldn't find anything to buy.

Still, gift cards remain wildly popular. TowerGroup projects gift-card sales will top $100 billion in 2008, compared with estimates of $80 billion in 2006.

âGift cards are king. Illinois laws make them all the more appealing to time-pressed shoppers,â said Lynda DeLaforge, co-director of Citizen Action Illinois.

The Consumer Reports survey found that 62 percent of consumers planned to give gift cards in 2007. They were the most-wanted gift among women and ranked third with men.

âWhen it comes to gift cards, it is buyer beware,â said Jack Gillis of the Consumer Federation of America. âIllinois consumers can be thankful for a new law that protects their pocketbooks when it comes to gift cards. Banning fees and insuring that gift cards are good for at least five years will go a long way to insuring that these cards really are gifts and not overpriced sales gimmicks.â

Quick, your favorite practical Christmas gifts under $40?

angela s

Want practical gift ideas this year, useful stuff, day to day, and things you might not buy for yourself.. any thoughts or suggestions very appreciated . Thanks~

Answer
We didn't have much money growing up and my Mom always says food is one thing everyone uses!

She used to fill a box for each kid with their favorite snack foods, Ramon noodles, pudding cups, jerky etc... Things we normally couldn't afford day to day. Still a good idea for teenager boys!

Make your own gift baskets, as a example, maybe a colander filled with spaghetti noodles, sauce, hot pads and a pasta spoon.

Along that idea, Do you have a favorite recipe? Something everyone always asks for the recipe? Make a gift basket with it, maybe a pan and ingredients with the recipe typed on a nice card?

My kids like getting a tooth brush basket, fill a tooth brush holder with special accessories that each kiddo likes.

Oh, Sam's club has some very reasonable priced picture gifts. Cups, calenders even mens ties. Did you know that you can upload and order your pictures online and pick up your order at Sams or have them shipped to you? I just did a large order and they came out just beautiful

Blankets, we picked up the softest comforter at JCPennys that was only 38 or so dollars for a king!

With the uncertain times now I know many people are getting 72 hour emergency kits or survival food as gifts too.
FrontierSurvival.net has lots of food
FrontierSurvival.com has tons of 72 hour kits and gear.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Electronic Gadget gift ideas for a teen boy?

Ava

Are there any new - not too expensive - electronic gadgets out? I don't know what I want to get for Birthday for my teen brother,I was thinking along the lines of webcam, new phone, pay half for laptop etc.
Are there any cool gadgets out there that you like to give to your younger brother?

Answer
I would suggest an MP3 Player, a nintendo DS, gift cards. You can even get a notebook for less than a laptop and they are small and cute. Check out think geek, they have a bunch of quirky stuff. Hopefully, this helps. Look for electronic gadgets sections, you will lots of other interesting stuff too.

If your budget is not too small, i would finally recommend you a notebook, that will not only a cool gadget but can also help your brother in studies.

Unique, attendant gifts -- personalized?

Nichole

I am looking to see if anyone has any cool, but unique gift ideas for attendants for our wedding. We do not want to do the beer mug, shot glass, stein, ect. it just seems over done -- any "NEW" ideas out there? Price Range is under $100 per person
There really is no "guy" vs. Girl side... I am having my brother as my "man of honor" and other male friends stand up on my side

I have checked the knot .. just want something outside the box of "normal"

Answer
for the guys, my fiance is getting them all a gift basket or package of stuff that is from their fave sports team, stuff like a baseball hat, a shirt, etc...with the logo on it, they don't all go for the same team, so he's accomidating! Its sort of the same thing for everyone, but yet still personalized to their taste...it may not work for you, but his friends are sports nuts, so it was ideal for us and it may be right up your attendants alley!

For my girls, I got them all monogramed beach towels and then jewelry for the wedding. I didn't want to do just jewelry cuz thats gotten so overdone, so the beach towels are something they can use for years to come and i thought it was different! I also saw some really cute spa robes that you could have personalized on ebay at the same ebay store I got the towels from, you could give that a shot!

Need help on anniversary gifts...?

Lucky14643

On Saturday it will be my 2 year anniversary with my boyfriend. And I have no idea what I have as a gift. I' don't want to buy him anything because Christmas is next month. Last year I took a picture of us together and used it as a background and put all of our favorite songs on there..I made it look really nice and he liked it a lot. Then for valentines I made him a slide show of us and now I have no idea. I'm not very good when it comes to writing lovey dovey cards either...haha. I've already given him pictures of us in a frame...what are some creative things you guys have done for your anniversaries..or just anything in general?

Answer
Anniversary Gift
How about making a pie?
Here is a quick one, takes may be 15 minutes to make:

Ingredients
2 Packages of Mori-Nu Lemon Creme (powder)
1/3 of a box of Graham crackers

Use a pie form, e.g. a glass plate, may be 8" or a bit larger.

Pie Crust
Oil the glass plate, e.g. olive oil.
Crumble the Grahams of one single package of Graham crackers over the plate (there are three single packages in a box). Crumble well (the smaller the better) and distribute the crumbs well, also up the rim. This will make your quick crust.

Pie Filling
Remove water from 1 extra firm tofu package and scramble tofu, place into blender.
Add fresh water to cover the tofu.
Blend for about 2 minutes or longer to create a very creamy paste.
Add 1 package of Mori-Nu Lemon Creme (a low fat pudding mix).
Blend until smooth.
Place the creamy mass into a pot and add another package of Mori-Nu Lemon Creme. With a whisk broom whisk filling until very smooth. The second package of Lemon Creme will not likely be mixed well by the blender, since the mass gets too thick.

You could fill the pie filling as is into the pie form on top of the Grahams, yet, I prefer to boil it on low settings for about 3-4 minutes after bubbles break surface (stir constantly) since there is starch in the Lemon Creme, and tofu should be heated.

The Pie
When done, fill the pie filling on the Graham crumbs, distribute it evenly. Cover all the crumbs along the rim with the filling, otherwise it may look "Crumbly." With a table spoon make half circle indentations in the surface of the filling from the rim to the center, one next to the other, to form a petal like pattern, looking as if the pie was bought from a store. Let cool covered in the refrigerator for a few hours or half a day or a day. The moisture of the filling will soak into the Grahams. Cut into 6 or 8 sections. To serve the pie pieces, use a triangular spatula as used for cakes, since the crust will be soft.

Variations: Mori-Nu Chocolate Creme, or Vanilla Creme.

You may want to add whipped cream or soy cream (TrueWhip or Soy Whip) for an extra treat.

Enjoy.

What is a good anniversary gift?

lovestruck

I have been with my amazing boyfriend for 2 years now and we decided to make each other something or to spend a little money on each other. I want to do something fun to surprise him on our anniversary but I want to think of something original and well since I have not been able to do that I need some help!! PLEASE!

Answer
Congratulations on your second anniversary. Whether you are celebrating the anniversary of a dating relationship or a marriage, you are probably looking for the one-of-a kind gift that will show him how much you care. You can look to the many websites that offer overpriced, impersonal and unoriginal "anniversary gifts," or you can think outside the box and find an affordable alternative that puts the focus on the love you share.

Make Your Gift
Make your own gift for a truly romantic second anniversary. The way to many a man's heart is through his stomach. Surprise your guy with a gourmet breakfast in bed. Cook his favorite meal or bake his favorite dessert. Make a batch of two dozen cookies, one cookie for each month you have been together.

If cooking is not your forte, write him a poem or create a scrapbook or photo collage documenting the previous two years of your relationship. Consider compiling your favorite love songs on a mix CD or tape. Show him how much you care with homemade gift certificates for things like massages, watching the movies he loves but you hate, and any chores around the house that he would love to skip.

Pick Out Cotton
Follow tradition and give your significant other a gift made from cotton. Cotton is the customary gift for a second wedding anniversary, but you don't have to be married to use this idea. Consider a plush monogrammed bathrobe, sexy boxers or a crisp new dress shirt. Enjoy snuggling in the outdoors with a hammock for two.

Think about your guys' interests. Does he have a favorite sports team? Give a team blanket for two so you can snuggle under the covers while you watch the game together. Maybe he's a video gamer or a music buff. Look for clothing or bedding with his favorite character or band displayed. If he's an artist or writer, give him a notebook of cotton paper to use for his creative outlet.

Take A Trip
Plan a special trip to celebrate your anniversary. Go away for just a day or take an inexpensive weekend vacation, depending on your budget. For a day trip, consider visiting a nearby lake, nature reserve, museum or amusement park or catch a play, concert or sporting event in a nearby town. Impress your guy by recreating your first date or any particularly memorable time together from the past two years.

Go camping for the weekend instead of booking a hotel. Plan activities ahead of time to avoid wasting time or getting frustrated trying to figure out what to do. Pack food to cook over the fire and don't forget the marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers for s'mores. Bring a book of poetry to read, music to dance to under the stars, or a romantic movie to watch on your laptop or portable DVD player.

Women, when are the following items appropriate for a man to give to a gf/date/lover?

Matt

Im currently doing research on what women enjoy receiving, as gifts, over the timeline of a relationship. So I'm going to post a list of gift ideas (feel free to add to it) and i want your opinions as to when each is appropriate to be given. Here's a list:

1. Silver/gold Jewelry ($50 - $499)

2. Candies/sweets ($1 - $25)

3. Poetry found (written by others)

4. Self written poetry

5. Love letters

6. Paying for dinner (partial or full)

7. Flowers ($5 - $100)

8. Clothing $1- $100 (outermost layers of clothing - shirts/pants/sweaters/shoes)

9. Stuffed animals ($1 - $50)

10. Perfumes ($20 - $100)

11. Diamond/gem jewelry ($500+)

12. lingerie/underwear

13. Makeup

14. Designer Clothing ($100+)

15. Spa package

etc. You get the idea. When are they appropiate? when would be too soon? what would you like most? What would it mean to you? etc. All comments are appreciated.

Answer
1. Silver/gold Jewelry ($50 - $499):maybe in the first few weeks

2. Candies/sweets ($1 - $25):maybe in the first few weeks

3. Poetry found (written by others): after the first few months

4. Self written poetry: first few months

In the interest of equality, please define the characteristics of a female chauvinist pig?

mutterhals

Or provide an example, if you like.

Answer
1. Women who label other women as sIuts because they're pretty.

2. Women who label other women as sIuts because they actually enjoy sex.

3. Women who label other women as sIuts just because.

4. Women who say things like,"Eww.. I don't want to have a daughter because girls are so much easier to raise".

5. Women who say things like, "Ewww...I don't hang out with girls because they're so catty and jealous".

6. Women like Brooke Hogan who imply that females should not be in politics because they get PMS (because we all know that 61-year-old Hilary Clinton is REALLY dealing with PMS).

7. Women who call other women b!tches just for fun.

8. The entire cast of every season of "The Bad Girls Club".

9. Women who seek spousal support because, God forbid they work to maintain their own lifestyle.

10. Women who brazenly go up to guys in clubs and say, "Buy me a drink?" Either buy your own drinks or let somone offer to buy you one.

11. Women who expect gifts for anniversaries, Valentine's Day, birthdays and Christmas, but don't buy their partners anything in return.

12. Women who get mad because a guy won't hop out of his seat for them.

Voice of Reality: I didn't realize that it was 'whimsical' to call members of your own gender b!tches and sIuts just because you don't like them. What you don't realize is that, things that seem petty to you, escalate into women not voting for another woman because, "She's too pretty", or women treating their daughters llike crap because of their own innate hatred of their own gender.

Although, I do agree that RADICAL feminists are quite chauvinistic.

How do I send gift to Australia?

Dr_Big

I am in the USA and my brother lives in Australia. I want to send a gift for my brother' son whose 3rd birthday is coming up. Now can I buy from Australian website and still pay in US dollars? And is there a way to buy in US itself and give the shipping address of Australia? How much would be the Shipping charge? And customs?

Answer
You could buy from aussie retailers on ebay and pay via paypal. Alternatively you could buy something from Amazon in the states and send it over. Australia doesn't really have the big range of online retailers that you would find in the US. Australia and the US now have a free trade agreement but I'm not sure how that works for day to day stuff. Hope it helps.

What is a good gift from Australia for relatives in...?

Romanc

I am *moving* to Europe, Holland/Netherlands for 5 or so months to do some schooling their. I will be staying with relatives, my fill in mum being about 37 (female) or so and the child being 7 (a boy). I am looking for gift idea's that i can take on the plane through melbourne, sydney, perth, singapore, london and paris. I want gifts that show Australia, and not really a coaster with a koala on it, i mean something a little more.. useful and Australian. I have thought of bringing them some Vegemite since i dont know if they have any there, any suggestions? Thanks heaps in advance :)

Answer
We do not have Vegemite, so you will need to bring any you will want to eat. But Dutch people do not like it. So unless your host has lived in Australia or New Zealand, do not bother to bring it for them.

In Australia you have lovely wooden things that make great gifts. Think about something to use rather than something to put on show.
Kangaroo leather is great too, but it is difficult to guess what your host will want to have.

For the child, you might go for a plastic boomerang, not a nice painted wooden one. The plastic one will likely get used, the nice one put on the wall.

Other nice gifts can be T-shirts with print, buy it a size or two big, Dutch boys are commonly tall.
A bag, again with nice decoration.
For more ideas, just walk into a souvenir shop and look, if you like the idea but not the actual item, shop around in normal shops or in craft shops, as there is a lot of quality being sold at normal prices.

Women who are addicted to pregnancy?

Rebellovin

I found this article on MSN homepage.
It reads -And this is just a quote from it-

Having babies isn't addictive in the way that alcohol and narcotics can be. But bumpaholics feel compelled to procreate for many of the same reasons that substance abusers turn to booze or drugs.

"Women who are obsessed with being pregnant are literally filling an emptiness inside of them, just as alcoholics and drug addicts use substances to fill a psychological void," says Beverly Hills psychiatrist Carole Lieberman, M.D. Every one of us at some point encounters this void, adds New York family therapist Bonnie Eaker Weil, Ph.D., author of "Financial Infidelity." "You want to have a purpose in this world. You want to feel less lonely."

It's not hard to understand why: People smile at you, throw you baby showers, buy you lots of gifts. And the rounder your belly gets, the more space you take up in the world, and the more people take notice of you. In many respects, you become impossible to ignore.

--------------

So my question is, is pregnancy addictive?
And if so, then do you believe that is why Nada Suleman aka -Rude nick name- Octomom, gave birth to so many children?
Full Story Here
http://health.msn.com/pregnancy/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100243083&page=1
No NO NO Mommy ofa beautiful baby boy -Congrats by the way- But Nada asked her doc to implant so many of them inside of her, it wasn't a accident or the correct procedure, I just thought I'd put that out in the open, She actually wanted all them implanted inside of her.

Answer
Think of it like this...
Have you seen the movie Baby Mama ?

That older woman who keeps having babies ?
She's like "Yes, I am pregnant aaaagain :D"
And the woman is like "What ? Your eggs are like from the 60's !"
Or something like that ? Rofl.

That's what I thought of when I read the article earlier today.

I have a theory why women like men that treat them like crap....?

Q. Tell me if you agree/disagree & why.

Women like men that ignore them and step all over them because that's how they think they deserve to be treated. They all want "high quality" men- whether that means handsome, successful, rich, etc. And they believe if a man is really "high quality" enough he wouldn't treat her very well. (makes sense?) Whereas if a man treats her TOO nice- that means that he ISN'T a very worthy man is trying to make up for it!

My experience: My first girlfriend (early 20s) I treated too nice. I waited patiently when she was over a half hour late to see mee, listened to all her problems, bought her expensive gifts, helped her when she was between apartments and needed a place to stay (she ended up leeching off me and staying for 3 months), etc. She dumped me by breaking all contact suddenly.

Second gf (mid 20s) I criticized her when she was late or made any faults. If she was late to see me, I simply left and turned off my phone. I didn't call her back right away when I was busy. I had her make her own plans for her birthday and only paid my own share. In general I was quick to tell her when she was wrong and how I wanted her to be. She in turn became obsessed with me and told me she loved me.

Note that both of these girls had fairly similar levels of physical attractiveness.

So, in the end would you like a guy that is a bit too nice or a bit too mean? Obviously the perfect happy median would be best but that's honestly hard to balance, so picking between these two the too mean is a clear winner right?

Answer
I think you're right, Frankie. Women see a reasonable amount of arrogance, haughtiness, and disdainfulness as indicating a man with status and power. In other words, they can afford to be assholes because other people fear them.

I mean, as far as I can tell, women are just as superficial and as ruthless about what they're interested in when it comes to the opposite sex. They just have psychological incentives not to be honest about it.

On the other hand all women are different and like different things. I think a lot of women are attracted to men who basically behave like their fathers. So if their father was an arrogant, demanding, sociopathic, upper-management asshole who drove a BMW and never expressed too much love for anybody..... yeah,

In my unpublished book "A WOMBAT guide to dating", I present the thesis that women will subject any man they see to a "hawtness at a glance" test. This test will typically fail 60% to 90% of all men based on basic appearance and body language alone. The test typically takes about 2-10 seconds to reach a conclusion. If at first glance you fail the hawtness test, the only way you will EVER gain a woman's interest after that point is by spending unreasonable amounts of time and attention on her. Even then she may still decide to dump you if someone more exciting to her becomes available. (She'll probably say something borderline retarded like "I felt an instant connection" or "I feel like I've been waiting my whole life" or "I'm sure he's my soulmate.")

If you pass the fitness test, of course you can still get shot down immediately afterward by not being "smooth" enough. So basically, if you haven't been to her house by the third date, it's time to move to better prospects, she'll already doesn't really consider you a real candidate, but few women will turn down attention when offered.

30th birthday gift ideas...?

nena

I originally wanted to get my best friend 30 individually wrapped things (small little things) for her birthday but I think it'd be better if i broke it down into 3 gifts; one for each decade of her life. The only problem I have is what to get her... maybe a gift representing her first 10 years ... perhaps candy or a doll...... then her second decade 10-20... (this is where I'm stuck)..... and from 20-30.......i've got a few things in mind but wanted to see if anyone has anything to throw into the pool of ideas. Or if not the 3 decades then anything else you might think would be nice for her 30th would be appreciated ^_^ i sill love the 30 things to unwrap but would that be too much? hmmm....

Answer
Mabey her second decade could have her favorite movie or song . You could also do a This is Your Life kind of thing where you do a whole picture collage of her throughout the years and top it off with someone giving out a story about her at that time in her life. Then just give her a Doll from the 80's (Cabbage Patch), Favorite movie- a 90's movie mine is (Dante's Peak), and Now-(whatever you think she likes now). Mind you these are just ideas. I know her taste differs than mine. I'm 33, so we aren't that far in age.

What are some great gift and party ideas for my wife's 30th birthday?

Answer
Hi
don't give her an appliance as these are like saying here this will make thing's a lot easier around the house.Something just meant for her is so much nicer, jewellery ,gift voucher's for lingerie, a day being pampered. Here are some examples of theme's for birthday parties.
I went to a 60's birthday bash and the entertainment was live with song's from the 60's era and we were dressed to kill in the 60's garb.( Think fancy dress,a reunion, base the food around what ever it is the party theme is focused on. Memories, what year it was what food ?).You could invite 30 of her best and dearest friend's/family, have 30 of her favourite food's, thirty chinese lantern's or candles set around the area set for entertainment (be safe here) get my drift?
I also went to a birthday party and the theme was cocktail's. Dress was evening wear, guests were limited so only those who meant alto to the person were invited, never mind if friend's were single and couples. A few women from the local play centre/school were asked if they would like to earn some extra money by preparing what was on the menu (finger food's such as mussels in shell, prawn's wrapped in pastry funnel's, fresh bread ham on the bone and condiment's anything you desire(this is only an example).Dont forget something to go with coffee and tea for those who may have done with the alcohol.Oh and non alcoholic drink's..Hope this is of help to you.

Gift Ideas?

Q. My Grandfather is turning 75, I have no idea what to get him. He like music, (Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond) tennis, Court TV, basketball and Heineken. I don't know what to get him and I need something wonderful and cheap, my family isn't from Hollywood.

Answer
At 75, your grandfather deserves the most special gift on his birthday...a gift that would bing smile to his face and the one that he could never forget. A surprise birthday party would be the best gift you can give. You can hire a party planner to make the celebration extra special. Or if you just have enough budget, plan the party earlier with you friends and of course your family. Invite the whole family and the people close to him. Arrange every detail with the people concern to have a wonderful and memorable party your grandfather has ever have.

What would be an inexpensive but unique birthday gift for a relative-by-marriage who is turning 75?

debodun

My mother's brother's wife is having a "surprise" birthday party in a few weeks. She is very popular in the community and a large crowd is expected. When I received the invitation, it indicated that "a basket will be near the door" which I interpret to mean "a gift is expected." I hardly ever see my family members since my uncle passed away and don't want to spend much over $10, but don't want to seem like a cheapskate in front of everybody, either. I would also like it to be something unique. Everyone seems to give gift cards nowadays which, to me, seems like an "easy-way-out" kind of gift. Since I hardly know her, I don't know what she likes or even what stores she may frequent. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Answer
The most unique gift is to design Birthday Card with her pics by yourself.

If you had little time, you can try a cute card with some sayings by yourself... With the card maker tool, you can quickly transform your digital photos into a stunning card that make her heart happy! After you've designed the birthday card, print them free in full color at home.

p.s. If you had much time, you can try a photo book that is made up of many cards. I think this is the birthday gift that is sure to be cherished for years to come.

Any ideas for gifts for my long distance boyfriend?

Anyssa Bar

I have been dating my current boyfriend for a year and a half now and he's a year older than me. He went to play baseball in Louisiana and I live in El Paso texas. We did the whole long distance thing great and it's done some good and bad to us. We're bothe getting ready to leave to college and ill be playing softball in oklahoma while he is coming to play back in Texas:) we're only five hours apart now but I really wanna continue to keep that spark between us. Any ideas to how and what I could do for him before he leaves and after he's gone?

Answer
Long distance really sucks :( especially on those bad days.
What I would suggest is maybe making something personal, drawing a picture,a cute letter etc.
What my long distance bf has done is buy us matching bracelets, were both into studs and those kinds of things but you could get identity bracelets with an inscription? It's a great thing to do and your boyfriend can have it for ever.
Good luck and keep me posted? :)
