Can I get my Sephora birthday gift at Jcpenney?

Emily

We don't have a Sephora anywhere close to where I live, but at Jcpenneys I saw a few items they had there. It was randomly on a small table and didn't have much quantity at all. They had perfume, eyelash curlers, Buxom mascara, etc... And there was no makeup counter. So my question is: Do you think I'd be able to get my free birthday gift there regardless? If so then where would I be able to pick it up? At a check out counter maybe? Please let me know what you think or your experience if you've ever done this. Thanks so much in advance!!!
P.S I know that you can get the birthday gift online at sephora but I would really like to avoid paying shipping if I can.

Answer
I've never heard of sephora products at jcpennys. I get my gifts at sephora and it's included with a purchase. I'm pretty sure you can just get it without a purchase t the counter, but Im about 80% sure you can only get the Gift at sephora.

JCPenney ?

missybitsy

I've just made a purchase at JCPenney and for some reasons I want to return this item during the next visit. I think my next visit is going to be a couple weeks later. I was using my JCPenney charge to pay for the purchase and what if I am going to receive the bill before the return day ? Are they still gonna allow me to return it eventhough I already paid for the bill ?

Answer
You can return any item, any time as long you have the receipt. A back up would be to have receipt and statement of bill with you, so that your account gets immediately credited. Pennys is simple. Without a receipt your card will be credited or gift card issued. Hope that helps

7th Anniversary Gift?

Hawk

Help! I need an anniversary gift for my wife of 7 years. We're coming off having a baby, and things are great. I'm not looking to break the bank. Any input would be great!!!

Answer
7th Anniversary Traditional Gift:
Copper or Wool.

7th Anniversary Contemporary/Modern Gift:
Desk Sets.

I purchased this beautiful copper statue (stands about 12" tall about $60 or so) of a man and woman under his coat in the rain, kissing...my husband really loved it - it's a great statue and a wonderful reflection of the two of us. We have it on one of the prominent shelves in our family room. We always use the anniversary gift (modern or traditional) list when we go shopping - it makes for a fun "scavenger" hunt for anniversary gifts. We've had some very creative anniversaries that way.

Valentines day gift ?

Chuchi

whats a good valentines day gift for me boyfriend ? not too expensive . . .
he already is getting my gift . a hugee tattoo ( My first ) and a Phone ...

Answer
Depends on your expensive tastes ma'am. See my girlfriend can get me cufflinks, a shirt, a dress shirt, slacks, a good dvd movie, shoes, a book, hell if my girlfriend buys me any gift that's already a miracle. Guys overlook the romantic aspect of it, if it's a gift and its something he likes, then its all good. You girls give us so little gifts as it is, anything is romantic.

Actually for once, I'd like to see my girlfriend do something romantic for me. Take me out to the movies, or set a candle-light wine dinner ( and we have a hooka) and set everything up and just talk over the couch. It seems like us guys put all the non-verbal effort in while girls just want to talk. eh, take the initiative: your gestures and actions will speak louder than any material or object you get us. I'd be impressed with any date you've planned.

Gift for teacher leaving ?

Stacey

A teacher at my school is leaving to go tracelling for a year she will be coming back in a year but I am unsure if I will still be at the school so I want to make her something special she has helped me through allot this year. I am kind of crafty so I could make something but am not sure what... If you have and ideas or pictures that could helP it would be awesome :)

Answer
Think long term.... a very nice card with a letter inside telling her how much she has meant and done for you will be the most long lasting gift you could give her. These are the gifts that people keep and never get rid of.... they go to them over and over, read them, and remember. Anything else will get tossed at some point. People love knowing that they matter, and that they had a positive influence on others.... trust me, this will be the best gift. If you want to personalize it, decorate your own stationery paper to write the letter on.

Gift?!?!?!?!?!?!?

What kind of gift would you buy a woman if you thought she was pregnant and asked her but she wasn't?

Answer
I've made this booboo a couple of times and it's very embarrasing but I think buying a gift is a little OTT, it's like saying 'hey here's a present because I said you were fat'. I doubt she would appreciate it and it could make the situation even more cringey. Just let it go, I'm sure you apologised so just leave it at that, I'm guessing this kinda thing probably happens every day to thousands of women so you're not alone!

Gift ideas?

Q. my girlfriend is turning 19 next week and i dont know what to get her.....any ideas?

p.s. shes into cute/romantic things

Answer
this is probably really cheesy, but buy a nice big red or whatever colour box, make it a nice one. put some gift paper into it or something that the gift can rest on. and put in everything she loves.

favourite scented candles,
some nice high end perfum - maybe the one she normally wears
some nice bath oil and bath stuff, girls love pampering
also add a few little trinckets like pics from your first date or a special moment you guys had together. maybe some little things you've collected when you were with her over the years or however long youve been together.
some candy or chocolate she loves and maybe her favourite dvd or movie she doesn't already have.

if some of the things are like a few random things that mean alot to both of you as a couple, she will love it for sure.

this might cost you probably up to 60-70 bucks, but 19 is very important. also be sure to add a card in side the box, a nice card maybe those ones that play music from a reall card store
and fill the card with words from the heart and place it inside the box after youve finished filling it up. dont wrap the box, just tie a ribbon around it and present it to her.

it should look beautiful but simple and it shows her how sentimental and sincere you are and how you always listen and understand her. maybe get her good friends to help you pick out her favourite things. dont let her know what your up to though it would be a better surprise. good luck!

Anyone remember the gift "Love In A Box"?

Rissa

It was something I think was out years ago...it was a little box that wasn't supposed to be opened and it had a little tag that was attached to the box with the poem "Love in a box" printed out on it, does anyone remember the original poem to it?? Any help would be appreciated...thanks.

Answer
I think it was this (I found this online):

I took an ordinary box
As empty as can be
I filled it with a special gift
And wrapped it carefully.

But please don't ever open it
Just leave the ribbon tied
And hold it tightly near your heart
Because my love for you's inside!

If you prefer to use bows over ribbon, simply adjust the poem to read:

I took an ordinary box
As empty as can be
I filled it with a special gift
And wrapped it carefully.

But please don't ever open it
Just leave the bow applied
And hold it tightly near your heart
Because my love for you's inside!

Hope this helps. Good luck! I'll try to continue searching and see if anything else comes up.

[edit] I found two more variations online:

"This is a very special gift
That you can never see
The reason that it's special
It's just for you from me
Whenever you are lonely
Or when you're feeling blue
You only have to hold this
gift and know I think of you
You never can unwrap it
Please leave the ribbon tied
Just hold this box close to your heart
It's filled with love inside
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

"I'm giving you a present,
It's my love inside a box.
It's not too much to look at,
But it's the best I've got.

So I hope it makes you happy,
If it doesn't, I never can.
But if love in a box is worth it, then,
I'll take you by the hand."

i want to put effort in a birthday gift for my girlfriend whom i love dearly, something which my hard work is there instead of buying. she loves jessica alba. pls help me.

Answer
Congrats, glad you found someone. One year, I made a calendar and the pictures of the calendar were of me and him together. I know she'll love that. You can do that, its close to needing a 2007 calendar. You can also make a collague of pictures and dry mount them, it looks great. I hope this helps you with other ideas. You can also, have a day of clues sent to work or school (just notes with saying) and then have a dinner at home with the gift.

Why do men spend so much more on Valentine gifts than women?

Java man

http://economy.money.cnn.com/2013/02/14/valentines-day-spending-men-women/

Why do men on average spend 2X the amount of money for Valentine gifts for women? Men on average spend $108 while women spend $53 on average. And don't tell me it's because men make more money than women because of the supposed wage gap. Men don't make 2X the amount of money women make! If we're all about equality here, shouldn't things be equal?

Answer
Some females are really shallow and don't just appreciate the gift for what it is they look at the item and then inspect the price tag and that is what tells them how much you supposebly love them.

Some of them go over board with this price routine. if some one else gets a gift for 1,000.00 and you paid $50. bucks they may smile in your face and say "awww thank you." but in their mind it's either your a cheap skate. Not as manly as the other guy or a rotten boyfriend cause she can't brag to the female whose boyfriend gave her a thousand dollar gift. And for some of them. That's all they care about, is talking to their friends and pretending.

If they can't brag than your no good.

Sexy Men Calendar as a gift- ideas for an ironic funny cover?

Lizzie

For Christmas I've decided I want to design a 'Sexy Men Calendar' for my girls as kind of a gag gift.
However I want the cover to be misleading to what's actually inside and be a (stereotypical) turn off for men.
I've thought of making it "The Ultimate Twilight Calendar" or "The 12 Best Seasonal Dishes" but I don't feel like that's enough.

Any fun ideas?

Any ideas for Christmas gifts for a man and woman in their 50's?

Maggie May

I'm looking for gifts for my parents.

My mom is 55. She doesn't have any real hobbies other than spending time with family and friends. She likes clothes but hates going shopping. She likes art and decorating the house.

My dad is 53. He's a fire fighter, loves baseball, likes football too. He works in our yard landscaping a lot, but I don't know if he actually enjoys it.

Both of my parents are african americans and have pretty big close families.

Any unique gift ideas? Know of some interesting places to look besides the usual walmart type places? Price is not a big concern. I'm a college student so I'm not rich but I just wanted to get them somthing nice that they'd actually like.

Birthday present for MIL turning 60?

amber 18

So, got any good ideas for a gift? She is going to be 60... she is a wonderful mother and gramma. She really isn't a fan of jewlery... she loves flowers but they die so quick... she is a "family" woman most of all...
thanks!

Answer
Does she like to see shows/musicals/plays? Maybe some tickets to one coming in town. Something she would like but not necessarily do for herself. They also have flower companies where you can pay for a new arrangement every month for a year- they'll be sent to her.

What gift should I give to my preschoolers teachers this Christmas 2012?

ShieLaLa

I have read online about handmade ornaments, cookies, chocolates, mugs, etc. were given to the teachers during Christmas and they are a good way of saying thank you with their hard work with my son and with the other kids. I prefer a movie gift card for 2 since its inexpensive at Costco. Now I would like to ask for your opinion on this. What would you rather give?

More info: My son has 3 teachers and they have occasional 3 relievers or sub. It is a 3hour a day; 5 days a week state preschool.

Answer
I agree - teachers are most appreciative of any remembrance at Christmas time.
That being said - most of us have had our share (and more) of coffee mugs and tree ornaments and any "world's best teacher" nick-nack.

Home baked goods are always appreciated, but with food allergies, it can get a bit tricky. Many school prohibit food items made at home for various health reasons.

Honestly, gift cards are a safe gift , especially if you know the teacher is a fan of a particular store or restaurant, or coffee shop. A Starbucks gift card with a travel mug is a great idea of a teacher who needs her morning coffee to get her day started right; a teacher who is crafty would appreciate a gift card to Michael's, etc.

In any case, the fact that you are thinking of your child's teacher and her work with your son is the most important thing.

So christmas of 2012 are you going to buy gifts?

brazill201

I mean assuming the world ends it a waste but assuming it doesnt be glad you bought presents

Answer
yes i will buy gifts.... just because you seen on tv or online the world will end it wont really end. people make mistakes... they say that the aztecs oy mayans predicted the world will end and some other old civilizations but they could of ment something els or some one made a mistake! herd about y2k or the yaer 2000 wer suposbly as going to be caos well it didnt happen did it. my point is dont belive every thing u here because people make mistakes and just because you here something doesnt make it true!

need help with gift idea for xmas?

lilbluebir

i need help with what my daughter can give her father for xmas & bday gift, she is 5. he isnt actively in her life, and she has made him things, but what can she pick out when we go shopping?

Answer
Let her just go to the store with you, tell her that here she can get daddy one thing, out of this whole store she can give him what she wants. What would you love to give daddy. It may take her a little while, but Im sure, her dad will love whatever it is, because she picked it out.

Ps. perhaps also, have her draw/make her own christmas card to go with it.

I sometimes frown upon parents who suggest or shop for their own kids, for gifts for their other parent.. why? Because think about this, its the thought that counts, and what better than a parent openning a gift from the heart and immagination of their own child. Even if they open it and it could be .. example; " a jar of pickles". Point is, in the eyes of a child, what they give, they believe mommy/daddy will love it.

Best of luck, and happy holidays

Birthday gift?

Skye

where can i buy a music/jewelry box from a store? not online cus her birthday party is next friday, i dont want to spend over $50
in the ventura, oxnard, orange county areas of callifornia

Answer
Found this, Should be helpful:

Gifts according to your sign:
Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Active Aries is always looking for ways to stay in shape, particularly during the holiday season... so athletic equipment is usually a good choice. People born under this sign are also fond of the color red, so a cranberry scarf or a scarlet hat could win their favor. If romance is in the air, let Aries know that you put his or her needs first. Buy tickets for two to a sporting event you loathe... or a CD by an artist you can't stand... to win big points with your favorite Ram.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Taurus appreciates any gift that appeals to his or her sensual side. A box of gourmet chocolates, a richly colored tapestry or a soft cashmere blanket are all great options for Bulls. This sign also enjoys having money to play with, so a gift certificate to their favorite store is a welcome option. Always remember that quality is more important than quantity â Taurus would rather have a small bottle of expensive cologne than a carafe of the cheap stuff.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Quick-witted Geminis enjoys gifts that appeal to their sizable intellects. A challenging book is always welcome, as is a magazine subscription. This sign rules the hands, so some scented hand lotion or a sparkling ring might delight. Geminis also love to entertain, so a set of glassware might fit the bill. If you want to splurge on a special Twin, give them the latest cell phone or PDA, so they can keep in touch with their gazillion friends.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Sentimental Cancer loves gifts that have personal meaning. Handmade items always delight, whether it's a finger painting, angora sweater or mincemeat pie. This sign also has a special affinity for silver â a monogrammed hand mirror or picture frame would be very well received. Since Crabs have an affinity for liquids of all kinds, a special bottle of wine, a fancy cappuccino maker or a shiny tea kettle are also good possibilities. And don't forget that these Moon children love the domestic arts â a cookbook specializing in comfort food is another sure winner.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)
Lions love gifts that make them look and feel terrific. Hair accessories, cosmetics and grooming items are all good choices for this image-conscious sign. Leos love drama, and enjoy presents that involve a bit of flair. Opera tickets, gold jewelry or animal print lingerie are right up this cat's alley. Leos also love to gamble, so a sheaf of lottery tickets or a weekend getaway to the casino could make them purr with delight. When shopping for clothing, remember that Lions have a special affinity for red, gold and purple.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Virgins love practical gifts...so avoid dust-catching baubles. A bread-making machine or a power drill would be equally welcome. These folks are also known to pride themselves on their impeccable appearance. Scented soaps, lotions and shampoos made by an earth-friendly company might be just the ticket. Virgos are also incredibly organized and might appreciate a good watch or a leather-bound date book. Or try a health-conscious basket of organic foodstuffs.

Libra (September 23 - October 22)
Librans have a special affinity for music, and always appreciate a good CD to add to their voluminous collection. If you want to do something really special for a Libran friend, splurge on a two concert tickets â this sign hates to do anything alone. Born beneath the sign of the scales, they also need plenty of balance in their lives, so a pair of candlesticks or bookends might appeal. If you're still stumped for ideas, have a lavish bouquet of red roses delivered accompanied by a loving handwritten note.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)
Scorpions are secretive by nature and enjoy gifts that obscure their appearance in some way. A pair of designer sunglasses, a filmy scarf or a slouchy hat are all great choices for this sign. These mystery-lovers also enjoy moody, atmospheric stories. A collection of film noirs on DVD are sure to go over well with your favorite Scorpion. The rumors concerning this sign's sexual appetite are happily true, so seductive lingerie would get plenty of use. Since Scorpions also like to get beneath the surface; a gift certificate for a deep-cleansing facial will be appreciated.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
As far as Archers are concerned, half the fun of getting gifts is ripping them open! If Sag doesn't like a present, though, he or she will tell you outright. Avoid awkward scenes this holiday season by giving this outdoor enthusiast some camping equipment. Hiking boots or a water-proof parka would also be appropriate. These animal lovers adore any gift associated with their pets. A calendar filled with pictures of dogs or horses is sure to elicit a big smile. Finally, you can always feed this sign's wanderlust with a comprehensive atlas.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)
Career-oriented Capricorn always enjoys gifts that will boost their job status. A leather laptop carrier or monogrammed briefcase would be welcome. Contrary to popular belief, though, Goats aren't all work and no play. This sign is blessed with a wicked sense of humor, so try the BBC's "The Office" series on DVD. Capricorns also love luxurious presents they'd never buy for themselves, like a silk bathrobe.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
You never know what this unpredictable sign will be doing from moment to moment â one week it's skydiving and the next it's yoga! Still, this quirky sign always appreciates technological gadgets, whether it's an all-region DVD player or an iPod Nano. If you'd like to choose something a little more personal, why not make a photo album detailing all of your exploits with the Water-Bearer? Aquarius may not show it, but they harbor a special fondness for their friends. Still stumped for ideas? A basket filled with brand new socks is both weird and practical enough for this sign, which rules the ankles.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
These mystics love gifts of all kinds, but especially ones that help them escape the harsh realities of life. A bottle of champagne, a kaleidoscope or a book of fairy tales will appeal to your Fishy friends. And because Pisces is a Water sign, it's a good bet they'll appreciate bath salts, foaming cleansers and shower gels. If you'd like to give something really special, a digital camera will make a bit hit with this natural-born photographer. Looking for a romantic gift? Choose a gilt-edged volume of love poetry.

Cheers!

She is very nice teacher in my son's pre-school class. I just want to give her a thank you gift

Answer
As many teachers, faculty, etc will tell you, teachers get inundated with apple & teacher-themed gifts. So, something "personal" and just for them is a real hit.

If it's all you can find or afford, I'm sure the thought that you've appreciated her efforts this school year will still ring through loud and clear (after all, most teachers are really in it for the kids and them successfully learning what's been taught is the ultimate reward).

I think your "Thank You" should reflect what the teacher has actually done for your child, too. I have a child that's been diagnosed with multiple disabilities, and I've had some teachers that have bent over backwards to ensure that he actually "learns" in his mainstream (not special ed) classes. So, this is a harder task, and to make it even better, he's in the top of his class! So, I've REALLY appreciated what some of my child's teachers have done for him, and I've tried to show it.

First of all, try to get your child involved in saying "thank you" by getting him to help make her a gift or card (even if it's in addition to something you want to purchase or do for her yourself). The experession from the heart will be greatly appreciated, plus you're teaching your child to say "thank you" too.

I've given several things (including the "themed" gifts):

*Purchase a card to include with whatever you give, and be sure to allow your son to sign his own name, showing off the skills he's learned. (Be sure to go behind him and write at the bottom his name and the date so that 10 or 20 years from now, when the teacher is going through her keepsakes, she can read it and remember him).

*A small, pocket-sized book with poems (the teacher I gave a book to once was a fellow-christian, so I gave her a book with scriptures geared towards teachers).

*A manicure (or something similar if you know your teacher's personal taste/likes). These start at $10-$15, so it's a fairly cheap, yet personal and welcomed gift.

*Gas cards (especially helpful now that gas prices are so high). Our teacher commuted to our town, so gas was a huge help to her. Also along these lines would be a gift certificate for an oil change. If you can afford it, do the gas & oil and put them in a card.

*Gift certificate to have her car washed/detailed (this is great for the single woman or for those that commute and put alot of miles on their car).

*Flowers, even if it's a small boquet from Walmart (this is a "no fail" treat for any woman, regardless of her career).

*Candy, especially if you find out she has a favorite. (I chose a box of Whitman's Samplers, so there was a variety).

*Gift certificate to her favorite store, if you "discovered" this, so that she can get "whatever" she may want (I know alot of teachers frequent Walmart & Target, so this may be a good place, anyway). BETTER YET... a gift certificate to her favorite retail store so she can purchase, or apply it towards a purchase, for new "work" clothes.

*Gift certificate to her favorite restaurant. If you can afford it, and if you know her family size, try to give a large enough amount that she can take her family. The teacher I gave this to, I knew she was married with one teenage son. And, I knew her favorite restaurant was Red Lobster. So, I figured that an average plate would likely cost up to $15, which would be a total of $45. I gave her a $50 gift certificate and figured that if their drinks, tax and tip caused it to go any over, it would still cover the majority of the bill and she could have a night out with her family at little or no cost.

*Gift basket from a nice spa or "bath" store filled with lotions, bath oils, bubble bath, etc to "pamper" herself at home with.

*Gift certificate to a day spa (they have small packages, so it doesn't have to be a top-of-the-line one).

*A piece of jewelry...ONLY if you find out her preferences and taste. Many teachers don't wear alot of jewelry around small children, so it's hard to tell what they like. Also, just because you see them wearing earrings, you still don't know if they have pierced ears or what style they really prefer. So, I'd do this, but only if you can determine what she prefers or if she has allergies to certain metals, etc (not necessarily a problem with pins/broaches, though).

*If in conversation throughout the year, you've found out where she gets her hair done or anything personal like that, give a gift certificate for such.

*Gift certificate for a one-time visit from a professional maid service. Any working woman can appreciate that, especially those who have to take work home with them, such as grading papers.

*Gift certificate for lawncare (great for the single teacher).

Here's a hint:

I've gone to the office staff and the principle and secretly "picked" their brain for ideas. They've in turn told me who the teacher's best friend/co-worker was and I've gone to her and gotten more info. So, ask around, but swear them to secrecy.

Ask her, too, in a round-about way. If you see her wearing a blouse or earrings, compliment them and ask her where she got them. If you see she has manicured nails, compliment them and ask her where she gets them done (same with hair style).

I use classroom parties, field trips, and any other occassion I can find to "insert" something into conversation to find out something I can about her.

I need gift ideas for an older family of 3. 2 50-something women and 1 70 something male. $86 to spend.?

SayWhat?

I only want to buy one gift for the three of them. Something they will all enjoy. They live in the deep south. They don't get out much.

One suggestion would be to order s magazine subscription they can all enjoy that is geared to that age group.
Good Times
50Plus by Carp

You could also order a weekly paper that is of interest to all them - check out some of the ethnic or cultural newspapers.

If they enjoy pizza or other take out foods - you could order gift certificates so they could use they year around. Movie gift certificates are also great.

You could also order a BBQ or a George Foreman Grill - something they could all use.

Hope these help

Any ideas for Grandmother's 70th?

202020Ques

She was an attractive young woman who sadly based her life around her looks and youth. I know it's hard for her getting older and 70 will be a big deal for her. Everyone seems too busy to of realised that.
She loves the finer things in life, 'beautiful' clothes, decorations, food and alcohol. She's very young for her age and not a typical older lady at all.

She asked her daughter if she could have a get together at her house, so that's what we'll be doing. She told me she wished her birthday would just go away, but she's planning this a month in advance so I'm sure she wants something nice.

I don't want her birthday to pass without someone making a real fuss - I want her to be happy rather than depressed about age. I want her to see how beautiful she still is inside and out, and what a gift life is. I'd love to make her so happy that for the rest of her years she can look back on how wonderful it was.

It can either be something special for her party at her daughter's house, or her and I spending a day/evening together.

Any ideas how to make it extra special?

Answer
Put together a slide show of her and her kids and show it at the party, that way she'll be the center of attention and everyone loves slide shows of the past- they make your heart melt :] haha
and maybe get an ice sculpture that says "70"
Or take her to get a make over, makeup, nails, hair, buy her a new outfit.
good luck!

Ear rings to help fight cancer?

Computer G

Does anyone know a fund where I can donate jewelry for women who go through chemo? Is there such a cause?

Answer
Call your local cancer infusion center and ask them if you can donate the jewelry to women currently getting treatment for breast cancer. Many oncology centers have "free to cancer patients" displays either at the front desk or in the infusion or treatment rooms where a patient can pick out and keep knitted caps, scarves, radiation pillows and various other specialized items that previous patients make for their hobby and then donate these items to people currently going through the chemo or radiation. Since the giver already knows how difficult it is for some people when they lose their hair, what better gift can they give than a choice of various hats or caps or scarves made with love and then donated anonymously for the benefit of cancer patients. Your jewelry would fill the same need to help brighten the day of women fighting breast cancer.

My sister just found out she has Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I want to send her a care package. What should i include?

Amy

She lives 3 hours from me and we haven't been very close the passed year or so. I want to help and make her feel comfortable but I don't know what to send her. She will be starting Chemo soon. Any ideas?
I will definitely be going to visit her as well but I want to send her something for when I can't be there. I should also mention that I am 7 months pregnant and travel is very limited for me right now. If someone can send like a good list of things that might help her feel comfortable when I cant be right next to her that would be great.

Answer
My mother went through chemo for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma 18 months ago. I found that it was the little things that counted when it came to gifts. Most chemo patients get nausea and their taste buds are affected so avoid sending food until you know what she can handle. When visiting my mother I would often take her carrot cupcakes or coffee when she was well enough.

Chemo patients are not allowed flowers so I bought her a little plastic bouncing solar powered flower for her hospital room. It was not expensive but she loved it and was always repositioning it so it was in the sun. A woman that my mother roomed with at one point would decorate the head of the bed with artificial orchids. Chemo drys out the skin so a quality moisturiser is a must, however it should have no scent. Scents (good or bad) can trigger nausea. A sorbelene based moisturiser is good.

All the usual things for a hospital stay are good: Nightwear, slippers, dressing gowns, books, dvds, music, sudokus, etc. My Aunt sent over a nightdress and slippers for my mum.

Gifts that are symbolic or have meaning to your sister are always good. For example at a time when my mother was feeling particularly low I bought her an 'Angel of Hope' figurine by WillowTree for her to keep at her bedside. She's now in remission but still keeps the angel beside her bed.

It is the little things that help a cancer sufferer to get through their treatment. Something to make them laugh, something to make them comfortable, something to show you care. You know your sister better than us so you would be the best judge there. And don't forget to call her. If you can't visit, call. Or skype if you can. Cancer can be very isolating so it is important that you keep in touch any way you can.

Best of luck to your sister and good luck to you with your baby as well.

What's a good birthday gift for a woman turning 60?

dejavuist

Answer
Spa/Manicure/Pedicure certificates are a great idea. Or $40 - $100 at her favorite restaurant. If she likes movies, you could get her a movie theater or Blockbuster certificate. If she's on a fixed income, she probably can't afford stuff like that. I would not suggest perfume unless you know which kind she likes. Ladies are very particular about their perfume, and older people tend to be sensitive to it anyways.

Do NOT get her some "cute" gag gift to make her feel old. Nothing that says "Over The Hill" or anything like that. That's mean.
