My personal belief is that stuff for the house should be bought regardless and should not be given as a gift, unless it is something unnecessary and she has specifically asked for it. I think that personal occasions should have a personal gift given. I am someone who will never ask for something personal and will be more practical and ask for an appliance for a gift just because I feel bad asking him to spend money on me, but he loves me enough to do it anyway. Even if someone is practical, they would enjoy something personal better, and you should buy the juicer anyway because, as you said, the family can enjoy it.

Get her something that SHE can enjoy, not the family.

As a father and grandfather I am telling you to forget gifts that you buy. I suggest that you collect up alll the old family photos you can find, put them in a nice album with a little description of the time, date, and situation and your thoughts.
Perhaps write a little description of the day the picture was taken. Get others in the family to help you with stories.

Other than my grandchildren the best thing one of my daughters gave me and something that I will always remember is when she put her arms around me and said 'I love you Daddy'. She was 25 years old when she did that.

Well typically the bridal party and parent gifts arent given on the wedding day, more-so at the rehearsal dinner but my fiance and I are paying for each set of parents to have a weekend away and we're volunteering to babysit all the dogs (His parents have 2 and mine have 1. We live in upstate, NY just about 30 minutes from Vermont. It seems like the majority of the inns available are in Vermont so our parents will get to select which one they stay at. Since we're paying for the wedding and honeymoon ourselves, my fiance and I have decided not to do gifts for each other. In fact, we usually skip gifts for every holiday and birthday (with some exceptions.) But that won't help you, I guess. If I had to, I'd get him a video game, but that's what he's into.

I would a beautiful frame for the parents, with a promise to include a wedding photo. You can actually do that for all sets of parents. I wouldn't try to give gifts that you would normally do for Christmas or birthday (like a book or something). Think of something memorable to mark the occasion.

Birthday gift for 20 year old male twins?

Well, to start off, don't get them the same thing. I dated an identical twin, and know triplets (2 identical, 1 fraternal), but the last thing you want to do is get them the exact same gifts. Even my brother and I (similar birthdays, but not quite twins even if we act and look it :P) hated to get the same presents on our joint parties, we felt like our friends just clumped us together. Show them that you understand that they are different and independent of each other, and that you see their different tastes. If they like different things, like different sports teams, get them jerseys of their favorite players. If one likes music, get him a couple good cds, and get the other something he would enjoy. It depends on their interests, just make them separate so that they both feel like you were looking out for them and that they both feel special on their birthday, not just clumped together :P.

Christmas gift for mom 2013 post breast cancer?

I'm struggling to try to find a Christmas gift for my mom this year. I had this idea though and I wanted to run it past: She's a breast cancer survivor of about 7 years. She JUST now got a silicone breast form to put into her bras so she is even on both sides. Now my mom is in her early 50's, but I know she was really excited about these. Do you think it would be too weird or too "young" or suggestive to get her a really nice bra and panties set with a nightie from Victoria's Secret? I know that when I'm in my 50's I'll still love this, but she's never been one to splurge on bras. I think now that she kind of feels sexy and even again this could be something to make her feel young and beautiful, the same way she is on the inside. I also wanted to put a note maybe with a play on words in the box before she gets to the gift. Something that sums all of what I've just said up but maybe with the words "even" or "secret." I don't know if that would be too weird or intruding on something intimate although now that I've been in college it's not like things of this nature are "too weird" anymore. Sorry that was a novel. Any thoughts?

A very good woman friend of mine is a two time breast cancer survivor at the young age of 36. In our state we can order special license plates for our cars...one helps support breast cancer and has a pink breast cancer ribbon on the left side of the plate...I ordered it with the word "Srvive 5" on it. I had it framed in a very special frame and presented to her...the meaning behind the message on the plate is that she needs to go 5 years in remission to lower her chances of a recurrence dramatically...the five year time is a big event for someone dealing with cancer...we both cried when I gave it to her, because she knows she needs to hit that mark and It's what I pray for the most for her...She almost made it the first time going 4 years and 4 months before she got it again...now she's into 3 years and 5 months for the second time around...She'll make it this time..

A few friends and I are hosting a baby shower for a a good friend. There are 70 people coming and we decided that prizes for the games would be themed gift baskets.

What a baby shower!!! Those are great gift basket ideas but still a lot of money for a game prize. Money that could go for the mommy to be and baby.

I would keep it simple. Small baskets with yummy goodies, or lotions.

Also you can think about having every one sign up to bring the new parents over a meal. Lunch and Dinner sign up. They just drop it off, no need to come in and chat. Fast easy meals that you can just pop in the over and then throw away the pan.

Anything you make will be personal. Also incorporating family photos for his room is a good idea. (Buy a baby boy picture frame in the colors of the nursery and collage pictures of you, your parents, etc...)
Also, my sister made pictures for both of the baby's rooms. For Abigail she just did a splatter painting with pinks, purples and yellow. It was sweet. (*plus it matched Abby's room, so thought was really put into it)
You could learn how to crochet. (I know that sounds hard, but it's so simple. Talk to someone locally and see if they will help you make a baby blanket. My grandmother, neighbor and a woman from church all participated in me making my first baby blanket. I'm sure you know someone who could help you with that).
You could scrapbook your sister (in law's) pregnancy, starting with how they met, the wedding, and then make sure to leave pages for after the baby is born.
This might be the best present, because most new moms drop the ball on photos and scrap booking. I guess it 's all those 2 am feedings, and 4 am and 6am !

When my wife was still alive and birthday time came around we always spoiled each other badly. Breakfast in bed, spend a little too much on a gift, then a romantic evening complete with candlelit dinner and an amazing night of sleep ;-) Back then I would have never even thought about buying myself a gift.

Now that I'm single I usually spend my birthday with some of my family or hers. Going into the city for lunch and a movie or something like that. I always buy myself a gift, nothing extravagant but something absolutely unnecessary.

I am guilt bound to the point that I don't spend as much as I feel my wife would have. But I do try to let her spirit guide me toward the gift that I buy.

sephora birthday gift?

I've been spammed and scammed over 3 times with people and companies that know my birthday. So know I try not to give out my birthday if at all possible. i want to sign up for a Sephora insider thing, and I know that they give bday gifts. When I go pick it up, do I have to show ID or anything?

For example my bday is April 1st. (it's not of course lol)
If I went in and made a Sephora insider card and used April 10 for my bday, would that be ok?

Your birthday gift is made available to you for the two weeks preceding and the two weeks following your birthday. No, you don't have to show ID as long as you are signed up. It will come up on their register when your birthday is. Or you can add it to an order if you order online. They will send you an e-mail to tell you your birthday gift is available to you. I signed up online and then when I was in the store they scanned a card when my info was up on the screen. They never once asked to verify my information with an ID.

Are gift cards a lazy gift?

I want to get a present for a friends birthday. I hate trying to pick out clothes, or anything else in fear she just wouldnt like it.

So i though about getting her a gift card for the salon she goes to. Maybe a $100 or $125 gift card that would cover her appt.

Then i thought about it, is that lazy? Is it not personal enough? Is it a good gift?

gift cards are the best gift - they let her get what she REALLY wants!

to make it feel like a wonderful gift, put it in a box and wrap it up with really nice wrapping paper ,and don't forget a nice card - not a cheap hallmark, but something nice

(of course, you could go for jewelry or lingerie too - not bad gifts. or you could get her a gift card from her favourite jeweler!)

Best gift??? Time... Spending the day with someone you care about and just enjoying your time together. Personally for me, it was spending a Christmas afternoon on a beach in Florida splitting a bottle of wine with my (then) wife. Of all the Christmases before or since, that was the best gift I ever got...
Worst gift??? Gift cards... It's about the thought, not the gift. Put some thought into it, OK???

But at that age, I wouldn't go over $50.00...
