Q. My husband and I will be celebrating our one year anniversary on June 9. We are tight on money so I was thinking about making part of his gift. I thought about making him a little "book" with pictures of us and 101 reasons why I love him. Like I would list reasons. But what would a good number be? 101? 100? Also, are there any other sweet suggestions?

Wow. Apparently people have no sense of romance. I think its a great idea! Shutterfly would be a good way to have it done. Forget the dinner and "sexual bliss". That can be any night. This is an anniversary! Not just any other night. Romance isn't dead!

Valentine's Day is also for marrieds and those in committed relationships. In those cases, both gift and night out to special ocasion.

If you are trying to make a new connection, and ask someone to be your "Valentine", then, just a card will do, to show interest.

Gifts are for those you have known a long time.
Dates are for those who are developing a stronger commitment, it seems.

For those under age 16, I do not think a gift is appropriate. A Val Card, is great!

But two "friends" can certainly meet in some dating activity like going to a Val Party, or movie together

The point IS, for lovers, or protential lovers to spend quality time together on Feb. 14, not to turn it into another commericalize day, similar to Christmas or Halloween, IMO.

It is a first date, so you don't want to overdo it. It's true, we love flowers, so I would suggest you to get her a single flower. You can buy it in advance, or if you two are going to walk together at some point during or at the end of the date, you can even pick one up if you see a really nice one while you're walking (those are awesome gestures, and women love spontaneity when it's not embarrassing).
You can actually scout the place where you're going to walk with her beforehand, to see where are the best flowers so you can pick one.

Have you tried calling 'Build A Bear'? They sent my sis a personalized teddy bear for her anniversary to my brother in law while he was in Afghanistan. Although to be honest I am not completely sure how my brother in law got it done. But they delivered it to her door and she slept with it every night until he came home. A good gift really depends on the person. But you don't need to spend much money on gifts--as long as it looks like you spent time on it any friend would appreciate it. Sorry if these are the cheesiest ideas you've ever heard, I am quite the cheeseball.

I know I personally don't enjoy getting gift cards; they don't seem as personal and I tend to lose them or forget about them.

If they're into fashion or cute accessories, get some supplies and unique beads or objects and make them a necklace, bracelet or earrings.
Or maybe a pair of socks or pajama pants with a funky pattern or funny sayings on them (when getting clothing, don't go for shoes, pants, or shirts--if they don't fit or they aren't your friends style they will just sit in her closet. PJs and socks are safer because they're casual.)

Also, try to avoid lotions, perfumes, makeups, or other beauty products. The friend could be nauseated by the smell, or even have an allergic reaction you're unaware of.

A decorated picture frame with a funny picture of you two in it would be nice to receive as well.

If you're just looking for a lighthearted something, get them a bag full of random little objects. Drug stores like Wal Greens, CVS, Walmart are good--you don't need anything fancy. Or in some stores like Claire's they have a 10 items for $5 bin in the back. Things like little nail polishes, keychains, bouncy balls, or any cool looking trinket that reminds you of an inside joke or memory with the friend.

Also, listen to them when they complain. If you remember that your friend's headphones just broke, they don't have anything good to read, or they're sick of the way their room is decorated, get something to meet their need.

I wanna buy a charm bracelet for an amazing woman?

I have been with this amazing woman for over 5 years now. I know she doesn't like flashy jewelry and a charm bracelet is far from that, but I think it will be a good anniversary gift with charms of all the great times we have spent together over the past few years. Now to my main question, what is a good charm bracelet that is sturdy and will last a long time, and what i mean by that is nothing that is flimsy or super thin. We got our 10 year old daughter one for christmas from kay jewlers its was 79$ I believe, its pretty thick hasn't broken the charms I believe r a bit pricy like 30$ a piece we started her off with the braclete 2 carms with a K and a R her inicials and 3 colord charms came up to around 300 but good news I found charms @ walmart for 9$

My husband and I got married when we were 18 at the courthouse and had a reception 7 months later! It was a VERY NICE gesture from my in laws but wasn't at all what my husband and I had wanted. I am not in any way complaining on what my in laws did for us, but every woman dreams of the big wedding. I wore a simple white dress and we had a cake, with gifts, and dancing of course. Next year my husband and I will be married for nine years and together for 10! We have a daughter who is three, and would really love to have a vow renewal, since I believe that is what it is called. Would it be weird to actually buy a wedding dress and get married through the church? We don't want maybe but 50-70 people there..close relatives. And have a small party after wards. The reason why we are planning it for next year is because I will be really busy in school the next two years after that and I don't want anything to be rushed like before.

A vow renewal is not the same as a wedding. Yes, I would find it weird if you were to wear a wedding dress, walk down the church aisle, recite traditional wedding vows, and have a reception type party to follow. Since you have been husband and wife for nine years, the time to play bride and groom has long passed.

Typically, a vow renewal is a low key event, usually with just family and close friends. Most vow renewals occur on big anniversaries like the 10th or 25th. However, it would not be a crime for you to do yours on the 9th anniversary. The only social faux pas would be to have it like a wedding "redo." Move on with your life.

It might be best to suggest that she buys what she thinks you'll like, so you don't pressure her into using her vacation time looking for something specific for you.

Or, you can tell her the best thing she can bring back and share with you is her travel stories! (and photos, of course).

The gift received from non relative above Rs 50000 in aggregate is now taxable u/s 56(vi) of the I T Act. Read the following excerpt
(vi) where any sum of money, the aggregate value of which exceeds fifty thousand rupees, is received without consideration, by an individual or a Hindu undivided family, in any previous year from any person or persons on or after the 1st day of April, 2006, the whole of the aggregate value of such sum:

Provided that this clause shall not apply to any sum of money received

(a) from any relative; or

(b) on the occasion of the marriage of the individual; or

(c) under a will or by way of inheritance; or

(d) in contemplation of death of the payer; or

(e) from any local authority as defined in the Explanation to clause (20) of section 10; or

(f) from any fund or foundation or university or other educational institution or hospital or other medical institution or any trust or institution referred to in clause (23C) of section 10; or

(g) from any trust or institution registered under section 12AA


It means that the person who receives gift above Rs 50,000 in aggreagte in a year shall be taxed on the amount of gift..

Since the value of 30000 US $ is more than 50000 and that too from non relative, it is taxable
