What gift do I buy for a 40th birthday?

Q. It's for a mum at my sons school so I don't know her really well but I've been invited to her party. I thought of a bottle of wine and maybe chocolates or does anyone have any better suggestions?

Answer
Give her a gift card to Starbucks, or your local coffee place.

Chocolates are good, make sure they are truffles!!

I'd send her flowers in advance, and arrive and have fun, and the gift is already been delivered!!!

Can't go wrong with flowers!
Potted flowers.
Bulbs.

just enjoy.
it's the thought that counts, and not everyone drinks!

I would love slippers, things for the bath.
A gift certificate from Bed and Bath, or Victoria's Secret!

Can't go wrong wtih flowers or Gift Certificate!
How about a gift Certificate for a CD from the local music store?
2 tickets to the local movie theater!

just keep it simple.
enjoy the party!

her friend that know her well will give her the gold, silver etc.
don't feel out of place, just enjoy!!!

Party ON!!

What is a good gift idea for a first date?

Bentley

My brother is setting me up with someone from his bank. We have plans to meet up this weekend. As a nice gesture, I wanted to bring her flowers and burn her a CD of some R & B and some songs I think she'd like. Is that cheesy? what are some other ideas? She's a girly girl. She's 21 and I'm 26....

Answer
first date/blind date no gift

it is not cheesy but you do not even know her
don't appear desperate
just be yourself - nervous albeit -but she is probably nervous too

If she is rude or inconsiderate or ignores you or acts distracted; do not do the same back to her be considerate and ask if she would like to leave early or go back to ______________ make sure she is safely inside her car, house, apt, before you leave.

Do not let her walk alone to her car in any case.

if you do not hit it off you still be the PERFECT gentleman [girls talk and your behavior is also going to be a reflection of your brother] be very respectful and courteous, and try to make a new friend not girlfriend

if she is a knock out compliment the clothes or hair not her looks,
and if she is showing cleavage don't stare [this is difficult to do, but just don't do it] look her in the eyes
everyone has good features and qualities be honest and genuine

If on the date and you [both] are having fun you might buy her something small, a trinket or something, but nothing too expensive

if you have a second date - maybe take something you cut from the yard or neighbors flower bed nothing expensive but nice/pretty/casual

if you talked about music at all after you met each other maybe then the cd of the music you like or if you are both into music suggest for the third date that she can make you a cd of music she likes herself and you do a cd of music you like for her

this will give you something to talk about at least

hope this helps

gift cards first dates?

jesus Z

i was just wondering if its ok to use gift cards and coupons on first dates? i usually dont but recently a really close friend asked me

Answer
Never ever use coupons, you'll just look cheap.

A gift card may be ok, just make sure its not too odvious that it's a gift card. Some look just like credit cards and you can get away with using without your date catching on.

target gift-card question?

smileyskit

if i wanted to purchase something on target.com for under $50, and had a giftcard for about $100, do i still need a credit card, or can i just use my giftcard alone?
oh, and can i reload it or add money to it?

Answer
The gift card should be enough by itself.

EDIT: Yes, most gift cards can be reloaded. Note: there is usually an extra charge to add money to a gift card and some gift cards require that the money be used in a particular time frame or they will start deducting from the balance.

Are you Suppost to tip your UPS man/woman during the holidays?

Q.

Answer
Here is what I found on the internet:

CHILD CARE

Babysitter 1 evening's pay + small gift from child
Au pair 1 week's pay or a gift + small gift from child
Nanny 1 week's to 1 month's pay + small gift from child
Daycare providers $20-$70/each + small gift from child
Child's teacher Gift (but check school's policy to see if it's allowed)
Coaches, tutors, music teachers,
ballet instructors, etc: A small gift from the child

HOME/CAR CARE

Housekeeper 1 week's pay or more (depending on length of service)
Trash collectors $15-$20 each
Parking attendants $10-$35 each or up to half a month's parking bill for the group if they regularly provide extra service
Gardener $20-$50. If the gardener's last job before spring is a fall clean up, it's best to tip in the fall

APARTMENT SERVICE
Doormen $25-$100 each (those who provide the most service for you should get more than those whom you barely see)
Superintendent/custodian $50-$300 (tip more if there's no doorman and the service has been particularly attentive, but tip less if you tip throughout the year)
Porters/handymen $10-$50 each
Elevator operators $15-$40 each

Dog walker/regular dog sitter Cost of 1-2 week's pay (as with a nanny, a small gift is optional)

DELIVERY SERVICES

U.S. mail carrier Gifts under $20*
UPS Company policy discourages drivers from accepting tips, but they can accept something of nominal value. Tipping guides offer $15 as a guideline, but the amount and choice of gift are up to you.
FedEx Company policy does not permit cash tips, but a gift worth up to $25 is okay.
Paper carrier $15-$25 for daily delivery ($5-$15 for weekend delivery)
*Civil servants are not allowed to receive cash tips. But if you wish to recognize your mail carrier, the U.S. Postal Service asks that your gratuity not exceed $20 in cash value.

What do you think of this gift?

6 short-stemmed roses for Valentine's Day?
So I was excited to get a delivery of flowers from my long-distance boyfriend today, since Valentine's Day is not really his thing. When I opened the box though, I was a bit underwhelmed. It contained 6 short-stemmed roses with baby's breath, a small box of chocolates, and a weird red heart-shaped thing with wires and a hole in the center. I wasn't sure exactly what to do with the red thing, so I thought if I went on the 1-800-flowers website that there would be a picture of how to put it in a vase or whatever. I couldn't find it anywhere on the website, but the more I looked at the beautiful arrangements available, literally every single one of which looked more impressive, the worse I felt, which I know is stupid, but maybe it is meaningful somehow? We have been together for 5 years or so, and he would not have trouble affording something else.
So should I try to be glad he got me something, or is this really a sign of the fact that he does not care very much (like he cares only enough to go through the motions)?
I usually get him something like a nice scarf or a sweater and some of his favorite chocolates, but this year I wasn't going to, because last year he made some comment like "oh, it's Valentine's Day, I guess that means I have to get you something," in the morning, and then he still didn't, so it's not like he just forgot, but more like he wanted to make sure I knew that he knew.

Answer
I personally would take such a gift as an insult. It's all too easy to get the common flowers and/or candy. If a dude cares about me, he better get something I'd actually like. It's books for me.

But you know what, I was listening to Dr. Laura the other day and she was talking about how many men say their ladies don't motivate them throughout the rest of the year to make them get all excited and go all out to please their woman on Valentine's Day. It makes sense. If you're a nagging witch the rest of the year who criticizes and you don't do everything you can to keep your man happy, why would you expect him to feel all lovey dovey on Valentine's?

what would be a good idea for a gift for a male horse rider?

Lizzy Smit

i am friends with a male horse rider but ive searched all over amazon but it only comes up with presents for girls, Help Me Please his birthday is next month but i really want to find something soon, Thankyou

Answer
English or western is the question...
My husband is a calf roper (rodeo) so over the years I've gotten him:
-Custom made spurs with his initials on them ($450)
-A bit that matches his spurs ($500)
-New western shirts (they can never have enough- $50- $80)
-A nice baseball cap (if your friend is a roper look for a Hooey hat... is the new "in" brand- $30-$50)
-A custom made headstall ($300)
-A nice belt (he's won a lot of buckels so he's constantly switching them out- $100-$400)
- A nice leather halter with his good rope horse's name on it ($120)
- Bell boots ($30)
-Skid Boots($50)
- Pro choice boots($100)
Look through his tack room and see what looks a little worn out... I find we can never have enough bell boots and whatnot! (If you're not familiar with horses go to your local tack store and ask for no-turn bell boots)

Thing NOT to get!!
-Boots (they have got to be tried on)
- A cowboy hat (men are CRAZY PICKY about their hats!)
- Ropes (crazy picky about those too)

I swear men are SO much harder to buy for than women! Good luck!

How do I throw a 30th Birthday Party for my single friend?

Help me ou

My single girlfriend is turn 30 this year. Does anyone have an clever ideas for decorations or a theme?

Answer
I'm single and also turning 30 this year. Hey, maybe you're my friend and this party is for me! ha! just kidding... ;)

If she's anything like me, and dreads turning 30, the last thing I want is to have people rubbing my new age-bracket in my face. Who wants to be reminded of how old they are getting when they're still single? So forego any "Over-the-Hill" type of decorations, or anything referring to "Old Maid" (I absolutely HATE that term!!!) Here are some parties that she may like:

-Honestly, I think a dinner party with her closest friends would be the best. Make reservations at her favorite restaurant and make a fun night of it. Take pictures!
-If she hates the thought of turning 30, do a "Happy 1st Anniversary of turning 29" party. Have 29 pink candles and 1 white candle decorating a white-frosted cake.
-Decorate the party like the 70's since that was the year she was born and have everyone wear 70's attire and play 70's music. Have 70's style posters decorating the room and maybe a history board of pictures of her growing through the years.
-Or if she's a fan of the 80's, throw an 80's style party, same idea as the 70's version...
-Or perhaps if she's a movie buff, have a party of "Big Movie Hits of the Last Three Decades". Have everyone dress up as their favorite movie character over the last 30 years.
-Maybe have people bring inexpensive gifts in thirty's. Thirty candy bars, thirty birthday cards about turning 30, a mixed CD with 30 songs on it, etc. Let your guests be the creative ones too.
-Murder mystery parties are awesome.
-Perhaps if you and her close friends can afford it, go on a road trip somewhere and celebrate. Vegas, Atlantic City, etc.

I don't suggest strippers or strip clubs. To me, that's fun in your early 20's. Turning 30 is a big step and the party shouldn't be reduced to something silly, unless she would like that...? *shrug*

***The most important part: Whatever you decide to do, invite men and women. If any of your guests have any potentional, great single men, bring them along! The more the single men, the merrier, right? ;)

Good luck! I'm sure she (and everyone else) will have a blast! And how thoughtful of you to do this for her! :)

websites for easy to make christmas gifts?

I am on maternity leave this Christmas and I do not have alot of moey to spend on christmas gifts this year. Can anyone give me any ideas or web sites where I can make cheap christmas presents?

Answer
Maybe you can bake some holiday treats and add a cute story or poem. I wish I knew who you needed to give gifts to. Also, check out www.homemakingcottage.com for more ideas. Here is one thing I looked up and found on the site....
Fresh baked bread, rolls, breadsticks, or cookies. (Send your recipe along with it.)

Free or cheap gift ideas...

Share your favorite thought or scripture. Write it on a nice paper and attach a magnet on the back.

Stationary and stamps always make a nice gift, especially for someone leaving on a mission or going away to college.

Stencil on an apron, dish towel, pot holder, pillowcase or t-shirt.

Balloon bouquets, Birthday banners made on the computer.

Fresh fruits, vegetables, or flowers from your garden. Since this is so late in the year I would suggest canned items that were from your garden. You can decorate the top with a square of Christmas fabric and tie with twine.

A basket of small sample items. (Shampoo & Conditioner, lotion, bubble bath, soap, etc.)

Coupon for free babysitting, window washing, ironing, etc.

Take dinner to a friend in a picnic basket with paper plates, paper cups, napkins, and plastic utensils.

A bottle of 7-up or root beer ties with balloons and ribbon decorated for the Christmas season.

Give items to go with a favorite hobby. (film & batteries for a photographer, etc.)

List all of the reasons you are thankful for someone and why you love them. Fill a jar with candy pieces and the notes you wrote for them.

Mirror with a note. "Everyone enjoys the goodness you reflect."

Tape record some of your children's stories. Present the tape with the books so they can read along.

Have a "Souper" day! Give a can of soup and box of crackers.

Here is a gift basket idea.
Movie basket
Includes: Gift certificates to video store, microwave flavored popcorn, peanuts, and pop.

What do you think of this poem?

Debra M.

Little old lady
Who sits in a chair
Who are you really
And why do I care?
I feed you, I dress you.
I answer your call
I go home exhausted
I give you my all.
You were a woman,
\ mother the same as I.
To see where life has left you
Makes me want to cry.
Where did your life take you
What have you seen?
Was life kind to you,
Did you find it mean?
You cannot answer
Your mind no longer hears
You have left all this behind
Somewhere along the years.
Know that I will be here,
Until God gives you peace.
I will hold your hand
On the day you find release.
Until then I will love you,
I will care for you every day.
God grant you happiness here,
Until you go His way
.And when you leave us,
And it is said that you have died.
I will say here was a woman,
With dignity and pride.
LOL yes I work in a Nursin home and many times we are the only ones holding a hand when a person leaves this world.

Superb poem. My Gran recently passed away after having Alzheimer's for over 10 years. I wrote a heart-felt poem for her to read at the funeral and would have loved to have read your one too. Keep writing the poetry - you have a gift. (And thank you for reminding me of my Gran).

Why are white men very sexist?

How you du

So I go to a mixed college, white, blacks and hispanics. its funny though cause its a small class, 3 black guys,1 dominican, 1 puerto rican and, 2 whites and like 7 girls (of all races)
anyway the black guys just love women, all they do is talk about girls.. same with the hispanics.
then when it comes to the white guys, 1 is gay, 1 is realllllly unbelievably sexist. the sexist white guy who is called sam, is always talking like women are weak, women are a waste of time, women should be chained to the kitchen, would should be cleaning, men should never clean its not there job. and then this black guy hugo, is always fighting back saying "dont f---ing talk about women like that, your mad! you came from a women, men have arms and legs to they should clean and women shouldn't being in the kitchen, just quit your sexist s---" and then that sam kid is always starting fights making women feel tiny and dumb! and the gay white dude all he talks about is women being ugly, all damn day... ? and every black and hispanic disagree.

then like the teacher would say to people "would you rather a son or daughter" then the white guys would say "of course a son, a daughter would be a waste of space id hate a daughter, she would probably be ugly!" then the blacks would say "aww i would love a cute little daughter"

its quite weird though, cause my dad is black and my mom is white, my dad prefers me and my sister over my brother, he said he never wanted a son, and he hopes i only have daughters and stuff.(thats why i love my dad he makes me feel special, i feel bad for my white cousins there dad makes them feel like a piece of useless waste cause there girls) my white uncles hateee there daughters and love there sons like there gay or something....! and all my white cousins are sexist, all i hear is sexist jokes about women all day "women are stupid, women should die, women should be chained to the kitchen, i hate women, women are really dumb" and they aren't even sexually attracted to women :\ then my black cousins are always saying "girls are princesses, girls are so beautiful, i love women, women are a gift from God!" and they look at women as "gifts" whereas the white guys look at women as "someone to cook for them"

I love it when men love women.. so thats nothing to be ashamed of. but it seems like a large majority of white men are sexist. kinda weird. i blame white women though, all my white aunts make there sons fat and lazy, and all my black aunts are strict and stuff..
any one else notice this?

Ideas for funny & cheap wedding gifts?

monkeyalie

My buddy's getting married. He loves duct tape, whiskey, & someone's homemade parsley brandy. We often draw on his face when he passes out at parties. I'm thinking about getting him something that tastes funny, I claim is liquor, & he'll drink a lot of; or T-shirts about how he's "tagged";but I'd like to make something that looks nice, is useless, & frustrates them like a puzzle box or fully furnished see-through bird houses. Any ideas? Or plans for a puzzle box that's very difficult to open?

Answer
Who doesn't love duct tape? It's what keeps my car bumper from dragging as I speed down the highway on my way to work. I would suggest fake lottery tickets so they think they won a lot of money (can be bought at Spencers), empty gift cards, or a gift card for a store that's no longer in business like Circuit City (although I heard they are still in business up in Canada), or just go to Goodwill and buy a random, useless item (to them). I heard of a story where someone received a wrong sized blanket and couldn't return it since the UPC code was blacked out w/ a Sharpie so if you don't want to go to Goodwill and have an old crappy gift from Aunt Hilda, just re-gift that. Just find the first piece of crap you see and wrap it up. You could also try making the puzzle box with the instructions that I sent you. If they get it open, you could have duct tape in it, waiting for them. Oh, wait. I have the best idea! When I got married, I had to sit through a boring story of how my in-laws received a trash can filled with label-less aluminium cans of food given by the best man. They had to open each can to see what was in it, and then they felt compelled to use whatever was in the can. Hell if I know why they didn't just trash the items but whatever. Some people are extremely cheap/tight with their money. My father-in-law was one of those people. You could do something like that. Just go to a dented can store and buy crap that's priced at a few cents, tear off the labels and gift it.

Feel Funny About Gift.?

Born Valen

I saw this nice pewter tray with a man with a scythe chafing wheat or proper term needed here. On it says "Give us this day our daily bread." I saw it on a Friday and said to myself: It's neat but a little different with a funny feeling. On Saturday my mom tells me she got it as a gift from my brother's girlfriend. The girl said to my mom: "My mother (deceased) had one just like it, and I decided to get you one. My mother felt bad and thought to herself why give a gift that most likely was her mothers? or something that resembeled what her mother had?

I am just curious. My mom even feels strange about the gift as well. Yes, we are religious but there's a funny feeling to the gift.
Anyone explain? Would you buy a gift and then say this.
It's an antique.

Answer
I understand the gift and the giver's sentiment. What I don't understand is yours and your mom's reaction to the gift.

"Give us this day our daily bread" is part of the Lord's Prayer in the Bible. I am acquainted with the pewter tray you are describing. It's quite lovely.
It is a heartfelt gesture to say that you are offering someone a gift that either reminds you of your own mom or maybe even used to belong to your own mom (although she didn't say that it once was her mothers. By the way, it would have to be an antique because that image of the man and scythe chafing wheat is not on those pewter trays that are being sold today anymore)
It's quite endearing and sweet in its intent and both of you are suspicious. Sad the entire meaning behind this gift and the motivation of the giver is lost on the two of you. She was just simply offering you something from her heart and memories.

Does anyone have any of those annoyingly true quotes about time and change? I got picked to make something for my school since I was nominated as best artist (shocking, nyeh?) and someone suggested that since it's going to be used at graduation I should add quotes about time and change. I took a survey and people said that'd be awesome, so I drew the pictures and all that now I just need some cute quotes for it and then a Home and Careers club is going to make a banner out of it.
I need the quotes soon because it's going to take a while to make the banner. Help me ... please!

Answer
i dont really have any good ones bout time and change...but i have some that are from senior quotes from my school....if it helps use it if not im srry i wasnt any help....here they are....

-âYou have to take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what you got, remember what you had, always forgive but never forget, learn from your mistakes but never regret. People change, things go wrong, but just remember life goes on."
-"When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling, live your life so that when you die, you're smiling and everyone around you is crying."
-Life is a gift Live it... Enjoy it... Celebrate it... And fulfill it.
-"Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you only have one life to live and one chance to do all the things you want to do."
-i remeber when....the worst thing youcould get from a boy was cooties&& race issues were about who ran fastest&&and getting high meant swingng on the swing....&&your worst enemies were you siblings&&war was just a silly card game:, but the thing i remember most was wanting to grow up...
-"You have never lived until you have almost died. For those who have fought for it, life has a special flavor the protected will never know."
-Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind donât matter and those who matter donât mind.
-Sometimes we must get hurt in order to grow, fail in order to know, sometimes visions clear only after eyes are washed with tears.
-As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasnât supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will probably have your heart broken probably more than once and its harder every time. Youâll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. Youâll fight with your best friend. Youâll blame a new love for things an old one did. Youâll cry because time is passing too fast, and youâll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like youâve never been hurt, because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness youâll never get back.
-Life is too short; grudges are a waste of perfect happiness. Laugh when you can, apologize when you should and let go of what you cant change. Love deeply and forgive quickly, take chances, give everything and have no regrets. Life is too short to be unhappy. You have to take the good with the bad smile when your sad, love what you got and always remember what you had. Always forgive, never forget.
-Sometimes we need to stop analyzing the past, stop planning the future, stop trying to figure out precisely how we feel, stop deciding with our mind what we want our hearts to feel, sometimes we just have to go withâ¦..what ever happensâhappens.
-Someday everything will make perfect sense. So for now, laugh at the confusion, smile through the tears, and keep reminding yourself that everything happens for a reason.
-Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so love the people who treat you right, forget the ones who donât, if you get a chance take it; it just might change your life.
-Beginnings are usually scary, and endings are usually sad, but its everything in between that makes it all worth living.
-Life isnât about waiting for the storm to pass; itâs about getting out there and dancing in the rain.
-There are moments in your life that makes you and sets the course of who youâre going to be. Sometimes theyâre little, subtle moments, sometimes their big moments that you never saw coming. No one asks for their life to change, but it does. Its what you do afterwards that counts. Thatâs when you find out who you are.
-Go for long walks, indulge in hot baths question your assumptions, be kind to your self, live for the moment, loosen up, scream, curse the world, count your blessings, just let go, just be.
EDIT: here is another one -But will you always stay someone elseâs dream of who you are? Do whats good for you or your not good for anybody

How long would you stay (married women please)?

Savannah t

I left my husband after 2 years of progressively worsening verbal and financial abuse. Alcoholism is what made him this way. After leaving ( I was going to divorce him, this wasn't just a separation for me) we talked and he said he would do anything to keep our relationship. since we are married, I told him what I would need or what, and to be honest for the last 2 months, he has done everything I have asked of him and more.

Even though he is doing all I ask, I am just not into him anymore. After being treated so poorly, I guess I put a wall around my heart. I really don't care if the marriage ends or not and I am kind of just here because of obligation. I love him, but I am no longer in love with him.

I am willing to stay in this relationship to see if I can get my old feelings back. If he continues to do the things he has been doing, its possible, however, I have been thinking about everything and to be honest, even if he does everything forever, I still kind of don't wan him anymore (but of course this is how I feel now)

I decided that if by December 2011 I still am not back in love and have no desire to stay in this relationship that i will ask for a divorce. do you think thats enough time? Would you wait longer? Shorter? Need some feedback.

Answer
Woman to woman let me tell you "You have a gift" in your marriage. Do you have any idea how many men could care less about mending their marriages? He obviously has gone above and beyond as you clearly stated. So, now... Now that he has you need to remember the grass is not always greener on the other side.

You owe it to yourself YES yourself to give it another try. And you also need not put a time frame on it, "because that wont work either". If you cannot do it from your heart and it be your WHOLE heart then do him and you both a favor and don't.

I am simply telling you though think before you quit on him and your marriage.

Valentines day gift ?

Chuchi

whats a good valentines day gift for me boyfriend ? not too expensive . . .
he already is getting my gift . a hugee tattoo ( My first ) and a Phone ...

Answer
Depends on your expensive tastes ma'am. See my girlfriend can get me cufflinks, a shirt, a dress shirt, slacks, a good dvd movie, shoes, a book, hell if my girlfriend buys me any gift that's already a miracle. Guys overlook the romantic aspect of it, if it's a gift and its something he likes, then its all good. You girls give us so little gifts as it is, anything is romantic.

Actually for once, I'd like to see my girlfriend do something romantic for me. Take me out to the movies, or set a candle-light wine dinner ( and we have a hooka) and set everything up and just talk over the couch. It seems like us guys put all the non-verbal effort in while girls just want to talk. eh, take the initiative: your gestures and actions will speak louder than any material or object you get us. I'd be impressed with any date you've planned.

16th birthday gifts for someone fussy?

cheska

It's my boyfriends 16th birthday in just over a month and I don't know what to buy. He got me an engraved bracelet worth £50 for my 16th so I want to make sure that his is special as well.
I'm thinking about getting 16 mini funny gifts for him that are just cheap and then one special gift but I can't decide what the one special gift should be. I would like to get him a bracelet but I don't know whether he'd wear it and I don't want to get the same as he got me.
His two favourite things are YuGiOh and Sonic The Hedgehog so if you could think of a special gift that's good to get someone you love and/or includes the things he likes then you will get 10 points.
Please help.
Also, don't say a b***job because that's not special seen as he gets them often enough, and will probably be getting one anyway.

Answer
Turning 16 is a definite milestone birthday that most teenage boys dream about for a long time. Sure they would all like a car, but in reality what they're looking for is a gift that says they are becoming adults. Sweet 16 gifts for a boy should be a bit more elaborate than what you would normally purchase and can also give them a taste of independence.

Driver's Training
Every 16-year-old boy dreams of getting a car for his birthday. But if a car is not in your budget, you can still keep his driving dream alive by purchasing driving lessons. Most driver's education centers are able to build a package for you, depending on how much you want to spend. Packages usually include a combination of classroom instruction and in-car training. This will give him the skills and confidence he needs behind the wheel to be a responsible driver, a truly priceless gift.

Electronics
Most boys are thrilled to get electronics for their birthdays. For their 16th birthday however, consider staying away from the video games and get them a more mature electronic. Ideas are a digital camera to capture their experiences, a laptop that can help with homework, or a cellphone that keeps them in touch with family as they start to gain more independence. The choices can be overwhelming, so if you're unsure about what to get, a gift certificate for a local electronic store will be appreciated just as much.

Tickets
Most boys have a favorite sports team or band, and getting tickets to see them live is something they will remember for a long time. Purchase two tickets so they can pick a best friend to share the experience with. If you want to get something beyond the tickets, consider getting their favorite player's jersey that they can wear to the game, or for an extra fee some arenas will even make a birthday announcement. If your 16-year-old is not a sports fan, a band T-shirt is a great alternative.

Birthday Gift.............?

Cosmicgirl

So I went in the coat closet because I was looking for a craft box because I wanted to make some earrings and stuff. Anyways I found a bag with a really pretty dress and an overcoat that my mom really liked for me a couple of weeks ago in a store. My birthday is in a few days so I can only guess that it's for it. But for my birthday I wanted something else, and it was pretty important to me. Plus I don't want my mom to spend so much money on a thing that I'll wear once, and that's not my style anyways. It's always been like this on my birthday, my dad for example bought me an expensive tennis rocket even though I hate tennis, but he loves it. It has always been expensive, never personal, but I don't want to be mad, but should I tell my amazing mom that she shoud return it, I don't want to be sad...?

Okay, so it's my girlfriends birthday next week, and she really likes pokemon.
So does anyone know where i can get anything pokemon in oklahoma?

Some ideas:
Pillows, slippers, shirts, dolls.

Anything like that.
Please help.

Answer
Try stores like target or wal-mart. also a new pokemon game for the ds came out just this past sunday. there's soulsilver or heartgold. if she has one already and enjoys playing the games enough you could get her the other one.

eta: the game is actually only $35 on the ds, not $70 like the person below said. and nintendo ds' are only $120, not 200.

anniversary gift?

Q. me and my husband have been married for going on 8 years this year, and i need someting to get him going. dont get me wrong we have a very great sex life, but i want to give him something extra on our anniversary.

Answer
Get him something on a chain he can wear around his neck. Make it something that he'll remember you by, day and night.

Make sure you include a blank card that you fill out telling him just exactly why these 8 years have meant so much to you. He'll probably read it, see the chain and you'll bring a tear to his eye.

Congratulations. I hope you have 50 years more together.

One Year Anniversary Gift!?

Cassandra

I've been with my boyfriend for almost a year. Our anniversary is on August 8th. I don't know what to buy him. It's hard to do this on such short notice, but I'm trying my best to make it an amazing gift.
PLEASE HELP (/.\)

Answer
You could get him an insulated nylon picnic container or a basket weave one with a promise to pack it for a picnic & a day at a lake or river. Some of the basket weave ones come with a checkered tablecloth, plastic plates & dinnerware & plastic wine glasses, though it wouldn't have to be wine that you're drinking if it's not allowed where you're going. I've seen these online for about $65, but I know I saw these one summer at Trader Joe's, a small chain grocery store, for around $20. Besides, you could outfit your own.

Another idea would be to play miniature golf with one of you paying for that & the other paying for dinner, pizza, or ice cream afterward.

Another would be big beach towels for each of you & a couple of plastic swimming rafts. That, too, might be a special day of swimming & maybe renting canoe.

Or get him a pair of decorate votive candle holders with the candles to go in them, sometimes found at health food stores, gift shops, or import shops.

The main thing is that you're spending time with each other with this anniversary together. Get him a blank note card & write something for public eyes on the inside but tuck a more personal sweet note on separate paper inside the card..

Ideas for unique gifts from London?

Jennifer

Hi guys,

I will be travelling to London this summer and I am wondering what cool gifts I can bring my friends. I have 5 friends to buy for. I will probably get some Olympic gifts but I'd love to find something that is really English and has some meaning behind it.

I am not really interested in cheap/tacky souvenirs. Thanks for the help.

Answer
When you go and see Buckingham Palace walk round to the left hand side , round to the Queens Gallery . You can visit the gallery if you want to but you dont have to because the shop is at the entrance. Has some gifts you wont find anywhere else related to Buckingham Palace and the Royal Family. Some nice things.

Also the shops at the main galleries and museums eg Tate Britain, The V & A, the National Gallery and others too have quality items for sale.

unique (theatre-y) gift from London?

Q. My cousin's boyfriend will be in London for a couple more weeks and he wants to bring me home (the US) something, but I have no idea what to tell him. Me and him are both really into theatre, so I was thinking of something along those lines...but what?

This is the game where you can pick a wrapped gift from the pile or "steal" an unwrapped gift from another player who in turn would pick another wrapped gift or "steal" someone else's etc etc.

Answer
Gift cards--Target, Virgin, McDonald's. Coffee shop. Or if you're set on an actual gift, at Target they have DVDs right now for under $10--classics like Ferris B's Day Off or Breakfast Club. Tie it to a bag of microwave popcorn. Or, buy a good sized box of Whitman's Samplers. OH. MY. GOD. It'll be the gift that trades hands the most. No lie.

Have fun!

One year anniversary gift ideas.?

It is our one year anniversary and I know that she is getting me either an iPhone 4 or an Xbox 360 Slim. Please help. By the way I am on a budget of about $200 or less and I live in a town of about 8000 people and there are no upscale...anything. I want to get her something she will like. She is into history and reading. We cannot have animals. We cannot travel. There are no bands, musicals, theaters, skating rinks, bowling alleys or anything fun where I live. The closest town is 150 miles away and my car cannot go farther than 50. I want to get her something material that she can actually use.

Answer
I am not sure what gift you choose for her, but you can always choose to present it this way... take a stick on and paste it in her wardrobe.. or maybe the mirror, write something romantic... give her a hint that leads to another stick on somewhere else... more the no. of stick ons... more adventure.. more curiosity and more fun... finally when she finds her gift...she'll read the final stick on... "You might have struggled a lil' bit to find the gift for yourself, but you won't take a second to find the real gift of your life... it's always in your heart", and i think she'll like that gesture. good luck , god bless you both... and hey ... Happy Anniversary !

I need to get a gift for my stepmom that ive known for like 6 years, also her sister is coming up from texas, I was thinking of getting them a gift together. Maybe a show, but the only thing playing in my area is that stupid Bob Marley (comedian). I need new ideas... By the way, they're kinda higher class women..
Also im a massage therapist, I wont work on family. It seems kinda weird to send them for a massage. And also she is leaving day after new years..

Answer
The combined gift was a good idea as long as they are close and have sometime to use it together after the holidays.

You could get the a gift card to a day spa enough for two manicures and pedicures.

a gift card for 2 dinners at a nice restaurant in your area.

Edit: If the spa idea is out then I would do the nice dinner and movie gift card. Is there a city near you where you could get the gift cards for that has more choices than just comedy?

Would you pay $100 for 10 christmas gifts?

Sweet Luvv

I'm selling 10 premade gift sets on ebay for $100....they are already in gift boxes with gift tags. I was just wondering if $100 was too much? The economy is really slow right now so I wanted to make it reasonable...would you pay $100 for 10 gifts??
It is a Crabtree & Evelyn Body Lotion, Shower Gel, and Bath Sponge. They are already in gift boxes with a ribbon and gift tag attached.

Answer
Sincerely speaking, $10 per gift is really not that expensive; but you just cannot expect one person buys all 10 gift boxes.

If the gifts can be sold separately, that would be much easier for you to sell them to different people.

What is a good book gift for the office?

E B

Our office is having a book exchange at our office for Christmas. We have a couple of guys but the rest (7) are women. The exchange is random. What is a good book? Keep in mind that our office is full of readers and have read a lot already. Ideas would be useful- Nothing childish or stupid please!

Answer
Hi there,

Well, if your colleagues are readers who have already read a lot, you should pick something that is not so very well known. Some ideas that would be suitable for men and women and that are not so very well known, but still very good:

- Dorothy Porter, "The Monkey's Mask" (a crime novel in the private eye tradition, but in verse - don't be put of, it is amazing!)
- Kate Grenville, "The Secret River" (an Englishman is sent to the newly opened convict colony Australia and has to decide whether he is good or evil)
- Anthony O'Neill, "The Lamplighter" (this one is a combination of thriller, fantasy and philosophy; I couldn't put it down, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea)
- Friedrich Dürrenmatt, "The Quarry" (a police officer dying of cancer seems to find out that his doctor is a former concentration camp torturer)
- Kazuo Ishiguro, "Never Let Me Go" (clones are raised merely to harvest their organs, but unfortunately turn out to be actual human beings)

I hope this'll help!
Cheers
S

Test drive a BMW for a gift card promotion scam?

Jeanna

In Oct 2010 I participated in a invitation only promotion from BMW. BMW sent me a envelope in the mail stating that if I test drove any BMW I would receive a $50.00 American Express gift card. I test drove the vehicle and submitted all the information they requested but never received the gift card. It has been over 8 months and I have contact BMW over 10 times via phone calls and email about this issue but they keep telling me they are looking into why I haven't received the promotional gift card yet and have no updates for me.

As a matter of principal I want my $50.00 gift card and I am fed up with BMW's bi-weekly phone messages telling me they are looking into the status of me receive the gift card. Is this something I can contact the Better Business Bureau about?

Answer
You are getting a free handout AND they are keeping in touch with you regarding a $50 GIFT CARD and are calling it a scam?

Some nerve. Typical Gen Y generation - you expect everyone in live to give you something for nothing and you whine and complain when it doesn't go perfectly. Im guessing you are 25 or younger.

I suggest you get a life and start worrying about more important things.

What is the gift of Islam for women?

any german dating tips ?

night wolf

I'm a man dating a women from germany i wanted to know are there special things that german women's like (food,gifts....)

Answer
Just be yourself. It's nice to bring flowers, but on the other hand, that depends on the person you give them to. I would like it (me being a German girl, too), but some people (like my sisters) would think it very old-fashioned, and complain about being treated like a grandmother. So...
There is no such thing as bringing a date chocolate or something. Most females in Germany would at least wrinkle their foreheads at that, if not actually ask you what those are for. Grandparents bring their Grandkids sweets when they visit, or colleagues of the parents bring sweets for the kids when they are invited over for dinner, but a guy a girl, to a date? Neeeee....

Bring a bottle of wine or something, if you have evolved from that "we are just going out together" status to a more pronounced thing.

Other than that: be yourself. And keep off the stereotypes like "Beer and Franks", cause that really goes on ones nerves. (most preconceptions of the average US American about German food and German culture are... not that acute, let's express it that way. And after a while, being confronted with them over and over just get#s on ones nerves.)

what is the best gift for a woman im dating for christmas?

Hollywood

She's 20 me too but i don't know what i should get her
we have been dating for a couple months but aren't officially together yet
but out of the women ive dated recently i really like her and i was thinking about
getting this diamond necklace from Macy's that looks like a hershey kiss

Answer
Does she wear jewelery? Would she wear it if she had any? A necklace would be the perfect gift if she liked to wear necklaces. However, necklaces tend to be the 'go-to' gift for guys who don't know what to get. It is jewelery, but it doesn't have the same meaning as a ring. If she has pierced ears, ear rings might be preferable to a necklace.

If you have been dating for a couple of months, you must have some idea of what she loves. Obviously, she enjoys spending time with you so make your gift an activity. Is there a special concert or event that she would love to go to? Does she collect any specific item? Do you share a love for a certain type of music? You want your gift to remind her of you so it should be something that means something to both of you.

Last year my boyfriend gave me a promissory note to let me wear his shirt (my favorite) after he had worn it for a day. I would wear it the next day and I could smell his aftershave. I would wash it and return it so that he could wear it again. Wearing that shirt always made me feel loved and cared for. The best gift ever!

Fun, electronic, cheap christmas gifts for a woman?

Chris

Hi... My family does this secret santa thing every year, and I got my mom. the problem is that I can't buy her clothes, because she only wears suits, I can't buy her jewlery, because she only wears Tiffanys, and I have a price cap of $60. What she does like is electronics. Are there any fun, electronic gifts for a woman that fit my budget?

Answer
You should take a look at a Samsung S3 MP3 player. I bought 1 about 6 months ago. It works great and it's very good looking. Last time i checked, it was about $70.

Gift Question for "Older" couple getting Married?

Dog Lover

One of my close friends has finally, after 44 years of being single, decided to get married!

This is his first, as is his wife-to-be. Neither have any children. They are both successful career people who are in need of nothing. They already have homes, cars, furnishings⦠you get the point. The wedding is going to be small, only about 90 people. It is a Catholic wedding with a reception dinner following at a resort hotel.

I have not been to weddings in years with people that are not âkidsâ just starting out.

My question, what would be a customary and normal gift to give to this couple?

One last point, I am one of two Best Men in the wedding party⦠So I donât know if that matters one way or another.

Answer
having been married with a huge shower where the women got me all linens (table, bed, towels), silverware, crystal, formal china, even this one, it's so great: a TOOLBOX with everything that i still use, then, at the wedding, nothing less than $100 in each couple's envelope (this was in 1980, so today, it's $250), which helps pay for the wedding and honeymoon,

since you are in the wedding party, you MOST DEFINITELY give a gift of distinction and expense.

why don't you make their life after marriage a life of leisure?

1. paid moving and packing expenses;
2. paid maid services (make sure he or she doesn't steal);
3. paid dry cleaning and laundry/ironing services for a year;
4. water filtration system for their kitchen along with a set of very thick, old fashioned, large water glasses (nice after a heated night together);
5. gift certificates for professional masseuses to come by with their tables and give them massages (no, no escort service: certified massage therapists);
6. paid services at the beauty parlor and barber;
7. to the groom: gift certificate for 12 months of flower deliveries;
8. their invitation, framed professionally, tasteful decorations included in the frame--ask the professional framer for ideas;
9. always, cash is a good idea, but combine it with something else, such as putting twenties, tens, fives, fifties, etc., into different picture frames: a combo gift.

that is what i would like if i were to marry again at my age: i would like for my life to be easy. i'd especially like that if i work full time. how nice it would be to come home to an immaculate house without worrying about anything but a tip--i think you get my drift.

have a lot of fun at the wedding--you have a very special role!

ConverseBu

she already has a laptop, ipod, digital camera, and camcorderer

she lives where it is cold and snows a lot

any suggestions help

thank you in advance

Answer
Maybe something warm and comfortable and just kind of nice, like a cashmere or alpaca scarf, gloves, had, even socks? It depends on your budget. I just ordered from this place, so I'm hoping it's a good idea, and the woman I bought them for will like it, but, here's a link to Alpaca scarves (there are lots of pages there, and prices range from about $30-$90). Other cool stuff, too:

Other than that, a certificate for having her hair done or peek if you know what brand her favorite make-up and stuff is, you could look for something else in that line.
