What kind of flowers should I get the woman I am dating?

Kevin R

We have been on 4 dates during the past month and things seem to be going well. For our next date, I thought I would give her flowers, so no occasion, except that I want to convey that I really like her. We are both in our mid to late 20s. During this time of year in the mid-atlantic region, what is a good idea for flowers and I don't want to be cliche and give her roses? Thanks!

Answer
If you know any of her friends, then talk to them and ask them not to mention anything. Find out what her favourite flower is, that shows effort. Sure the friend will tell her even if they agree not too, but that also shows effort.

Plus, it's also a good idea in case the friend turns around and says she suffers badly from hey fever, that way you can get plastic flowers as a gimmicky gift to prevent a romantic gift turning into a miserable date.

What do you think of a 22 year old woman dating a 64 year old man?

He sends me gifts all the time and is very kind.

Answer
If you don't have a problem with it then go for it.

I started volunteering for Child Protective Services and saw that most people donate gifts for little kids but not for the teens. What are some good gifts for girls and boys ages 14 - 18. Also, the burn center has children without fingers and some without arms. What kind of Christmas gifts are good for kids like that??? I am really at a loss. Thank you...

What baby gifts would you want to receive most?

Boycott Ho

Seems like the gifts are all repetitive and I want to give something that is different.

Answer
I would go for some other sort of help then....
Ive had 5 babies and although Ive never had a baby shower, Ive been given a lot of gifts afterwards, some that Ive used, some I havent.

It would depend on how well you know the mum. If she is family or a close friend I would make some cool Certificates.
something along the lines of

*this certificate entitles the bearer to - (make up your own hours etc) - Free house cleaning or - Babysitting (must be used before baby turns 18 years old) lol. or something along those lines.

I for one, wouldve much prefered just to have someone to talk to, as so many people think "I dont want to bother them with their new baby" when infact with my first baby, I was incredibly lonely and had hardly any visitors.

Good on you for thinking outside the square.

What's a good artistic gift i can give my amazing friend for xmas?

Sean :)

i have a friend whom i love dearly, and she has done so much for me over the past few months. i want to get her something very meaningful for xmas, and she is an avid painter. i was wondering if you could give me some suggestions as to things i could get her for christmas. Thank you.

Answer
does she want the world to know her work? if so, you could try to get her art to be part of an exhibition. or have the paintings made into postcards. or contribute to her portfolio. or create a website for her art. if it's 'just' a hobby for her, she'll probably love any nice book about painting (preferably the lesser well-known ones in her genre). either way, it's always the thought that counts, not the amount of money spent. women like a personal gesture. looks like you're a good friend so you probably pick something she appreciates. seems like you really deserve each other, which is great.

Why are so many women on here trying to get pregnant before getting married?

gift for women trying to get pregnant image

Maggie

I see question after question on here from women who are trying to conceive with their boyfriend. I should apologize to a few because I chimed in telling them to get married first then have babies when it's really none of my business.

I'm just curious why nobody wants to get married before having a baby? Raising children is really really hard. Am I missing something? I'm not THAT old!

Answer
Lots of reasons really...

me and my boyfriend of around 7 years are trying for our first. He is my soul mate, and I think that us deciding to have a baby together is far more of a commitment to each other than standing in front of some old guy at a church saying 'I do' then watching all our friends get drunk at the reception and complain about the canapes.

Not to mention the fact that my father is retired and I WONT ever expect him to cough up money for a wedding. So I'd have to foot the bill...again, once the baby is (conceived first - baby dust, baby dust) born, that money can go to much better use.

Add to that the fact that both of our parents got divorced when we were young, and to be honest, I can't really respect an institution that is results in a 50% divorce rate...would you use contraception that's 50% effective? Why not?

Lastly, neither of us believes in the Christian version of god, so I don't feel it's right to be hypocritical and stand there in front of a priest and listen to things from a bible that I don't believe...yes...yes, I could get them to say something else, but marriage is really a religious thing, and it just doesn't hold water with me.

Perhaps for some people, the idea of marriage means something more...but nothing in this world is going to make me love my partner more than I do already and there is no greater gift we can give each other than a little one who melds us together into a family.

when should a pregnant woman start buying clothes for the baby and what are the essential things u should get?

faridac18

i'm 28 weeks pregnant and this is my first . i was told that u shouldn't get a lot of clothings for the baby because babies grown really fast.i need to know what to get for the baby! Thank you.

Answer
It's a good idea to start buying clothes and supplies now, so you can do it in a leisurely pace and keep an eye out for sales.

Babies do grow fast, especially in the first 3-6 months. A baby will triple it's birth weight in the first year. They won't be in newborn or size 0-3 for long. You will probably get a lot of newborn size gifts. You can also check consignment shops or even Goodwill if you are so inclined. I have had to do baby shopping recently and was really suprised to find that many of the clothes were brand new with tags or in such good condition they were like new.

Clothing wise, some things I would get for the first year are:

---6 Snap-Side Shirts (3 in size 0-3 months, 3 in size 3-6 months)
These undershirts are a "wraparound" type and either snap or tie at one side. I found these essential with newborns + infants because you can just lay them on top, put arms in + close rather than trying to get a wobbly head and arms into a regular t-shirt.

---4 Onesies (2 in size 0-3 months, 2 in size 3-6 months)
These are like one piece bodysuits that snap at the crotch

---4 Infant Gowns (usually one size, up to 20 lbs)
These tie at bottom with draw strings, making it easy for diaper changes as well as bundling up, carrying around and keeping feet warm.

---6 Sleepers/Stretch Suits (3 in size 0-3 months, 2 in size 3-6 months)
These are the terry cloth or cotton one piece suits that cover head to toe. Cotton is nice and breatheable for all seasons. Make sure that these have a snap crotch for quick and easy changes.

---4 Pairs of Booties or Socks
These tend to fall off alot, so get ones slightly longer than ankle length and with stretch elastic band at cuff

---4 Receiving Blankets
The most popular are thermal and flannel. The thermal kind are the best for swaddling newborns.

---1 Sweater and Hat or Special Outfit
For coming-home-from-the-hospital or special occasions. A snap Front cardigan and pants set is nice.

---4 Drool Bibs
These are a must if you want to keep baby dry in front. Look for velcro or snap closure to get on + off easily

---4 Terry Cloth Bath towels
I like the hooded ones to keep babys head warm

---6 Washcloths
For bathtime and general face and hand cleaning

---12 Cloth Diapers
These are perfect burp cloths and have other uses as well. You will be using these for a long time

Whatever you get make sure it snaps or zips at the crotch rather than just up the stomach! The quantities are just a guideline. You might prefer to have more or less or you may get alot as gifts. I found it better to have more than less because alot of items get "messed up" very quickly and the more you have the longer you can go without laundering tiny loads. You might get an extra set of things to keep ready in a diaper bag so you don't have to pack each time; it's ready to go.

Also, think ahead! A real moneysaver for me was to purchase clothing for the following year season (and sometimes all-season) from clearance racks in all stores. Items are marked down incredibly, and you may even see the same thing you were going to buy at full retail. For example, a baby born in April would be one year old the following April so you could shop the spring clearance for the first time and keep your eyes open at each end of season to add to your collection. Pretty soon you will have a very nice collection of clothes and be ready for each new season and size beforehand. For sizes, go by the rule of "triple birth weight in one year", or get a 12-18 month size for growth and long wear.

Oh yeah, don't forget to stock up on diapers!

Best Wishes for the New Baby!

A question on UK Gift Tax and rights of a couple?

gifts for her $100 image

Hi all. I am asking this question on behalf of my friend. She is married to a UK national. They both live in UK. Her husband wants to gift 100% shares of his business to her. She wants to know what will be her husband's rights once the gift has been made and if there will be any tax liabilities. Thanks.

Answer
No gift tax in the UK and no Capital Gains Tax due on transfers between spouses.

Can I avoid the gift tax by giving small gifts to ten people and telling them to give the money to one person?

Q. I want to give a large gift to person X. It seems easy to avoid the gift tax by giving small tax-free gifts to 100 people, paying each of them a small share of the tax savings, and leaving it understood with them that they should give the gift to person X. Assuming I trust these 100 people to pass the gift on to person X, is this legal? Thanks!

Answer
Reality rules here. Go for the obvious.

Part II: Shops at the Mall

1. You are planning to lease space for a new mall that has one million square feet of leasable space. Determine how much space you would allocate for each type of specialty shop by completing the table below.
Type of ShopPercent of MallAllocated Leasable Space
Womenâs Clothing25
Menâs Clothing10
Food15
Service5
Shoes10
Jewelry3
Family Items7
Gifts17

Total

2. Using the guidelines, about how much of the mallâs space would not be leased? What would you do with the remaining space? Explain your decision here.

Making a Scale Drawing
3.Make a scale drawing of your mall, showing how you will allocate leasable space. Be prepared to share your drawing with the rest of your class. Consider the following:
â¢Some stores will be bigger than others.
â¢Stores competing for the same business must not be located next to each other.
â¢A written or visual plan for dealing with traffic flow (walking) in the mall must be included.
â¢A mall will have two stories, and both floors must be included in your drawing.
â¢A food court should be located on the mallâs second floor.

4.Complete the table with your calculations:
StoreAllocated SpaceWorkScaled Space

Answer
1) 1,000,000ft^2 leasable space
25% = 0.25(1,000,000) = 250,000ft^2
10% = 0.1(1,000,000) = 100,000ft^2
15% = 0.15(1,000,000) = 150,000ft^2
5% = 0.05(1,000,000) = 50,000ft^2
10% = 100,000ft^2
3% = 0.03(1,000,000) = 30,000ft^2
7% = 0.07(1,000,000) = 70,000ft^2
17% = 0.17(1,000,000) = 170,000ft^2
_____
92%

2) 92% is allocated, so 8% remains unused.
0.08(1,000,000) = 80,000ft^2

The rest is up to you.

I would like to take 15 roses from my bouquet, and arrange them like this, in a shadow box. I was planning on either air-drying them, or drying them with silica gel, but I am not sure of the best way to attach them to my shadow box. With pins? Or hot glue? Rubber cement? Do you think my idea would work?

Answer
There are actually places that will dry the flowers out and display them in a shadow box for you; do an internet search and see what you turn up.

What would be a nice gift to give a young 16 year old hispanic female who helps me translate from time to time?

Within the last year and a half she has translated for me numerous times, and I thought it would be nice to get her a gift. I want to get her a gift that is respectful to her as a young woman and that respects her and her families economical ways of living.

I dont want to go with "make up/perfume/gift card"

any ideas?

Answer
I would like to suggest giving her multiple things:

1) Something she can share with her family, because she's relatively young and ostensibly works for you with their blessing. This could be a meat, cheese, & cracker basket, a fresh fruit basket, etc. If you're particularly gifted in the culinary arts, you could bake cookies or a couple of pies. Here, you're providing a chance for her family to show gratitude to her for doing good volunteer work.

2) Something "just for her". I would break the etiquette stigma (and your pre-emptive statement!) and go with a clothing store gift card. Something she'd go to a mall with her friends and look at anyway. Gap, Express, Banana Republic, etc. And in a denomination that she could pick one nice item out and have it paid for. I think it's easy to forget that what we wore to school had a large effect on how we were treated by our peers. In this sense you'd be providing for her social status and self-esteem.

3) Something personal, from you to her. This would most likely be a thank-you card with a handwritten note detailing how much she's helped you and how grateful you are for her. This may end up being a keepsake for her, and would also re-enforce her self-esteem and provide positive feedback on her volunteerism.

Thank you for showing your gratitude to someone who is so deserving of it. Keep up the good work.

Q. I'm a twenty year-old college student, and I wanted to get something unique for mom this Mother's Day. However, I probably couldn't spend more than 50-60 dollars on a gift (and that's a maximum!)

Do you have any good gift ideas on such a budget?

I agree with the answer above. A new picture of you, in a nice, tasteful frame, maybe with a hand written dedication.

Can someone suggest an affordable gift idea thatâs also useful?

My aunt is turning 60 this month and I want to gift her something special. Unfortunately, I can hardly afford anything expensive or unique with my salary being cut amidst economical crises. Can someone suggest an affordable gift idea thatâs also useful?

Answer
Let's face it at 60 you either have everything you want or can go get it so don't worry about the expensive stuff. Think about something that is special to you and her. Did you go places together or anything? Get something that would remind her of these times. Useful gifts, lighted magnifying glass to read by, LED flashlight that you shake to run so it doesn't need batteries, I don't know your budget but my aunt's favorite gift was the digital photo frame, they run around a hundred dollars but can be found cheaper. Another thing I did was go to the junk/resale shops, I found items that were big when she was little. Not all of this stuff is expensive so look around. It brought back memories when she was little and started a whole new set of family stories we hadn't heard. Good luck.
