gifts for her 40 birthday image

I am throwing my girlfriend a 40th birthday party. Does etiquette require that I also get her a gift?
Answer
Yes. While you are going to the expense of throwing the party, it is expected that you provide a small, tasteful and appropriate gift.
(gift cards do not count as a gift, because they require no thought)

well my brother and me are getting a gift together, we're both older so we have access to a car and money. she's really into things like karma and astrology and zodiac signs and whatnot. she also enjoys relaxtion stuff so if you could please figure out what i should get her, it would be great because her 40th birthday is this saturday
Answer
1. Go to Earthbound Trading Company. [somewhere in a mall]
2. But an incense holder that you KNOW she will absolutely love [some of her favorite symbols]
3. Ask her what her favorite smells are [but don't let her know they're incense, just ask if like Lavender calms her down, or other ones, whatever is at the store, be sly!]
4. Purchase that all, while she is opening it and distracted, surprise her with something MADE by you two.
Mothers absolutely love things made by her children, so do dads.
Even a card will brighten her whole day.
Don't buy her a cake, make one.
Don't buy her a card, make one.
Don't buy some flowers, pick them.
Really show her how much you love/appreciate her.
And whatever you do, make her feel young!
She's 40, officially middle-age.
And something cute would be to get her a card that says "Happy 21st birthday!" [something along those lines]
and when she says "Dude, I'm not 21, I'm 40!"
React like "WTF?!, *turn to your brother*, dude! You said she was 21!"
"Man, she totally looks the part."
"Sorry, Mom. We were fooled. :)
It will make her feel special.
Good luck!
