How do I send gift to Australia?

Dr_Big

I am in the USA and my brother lives in Australia. I want to send a gift for my brother' son whose 3rd birthday is coming up. Now can I buy from Australian website and still pay in US dollars? And is there a way to buy in US itself and give the shipping address of Australia? How much would be the Shipping charge? And customs?

Answer
You could buy from aussie retailers on ebay and pay via paypal. Alternatively you could buy something from Amazon in the states and send it over. Australia doesn't really have the big range of online retailers that you would find in the US. Australia and the US now have a free trade agreement but I'm not sure how that works for day to day stuff. Hope it helps.

What is a good gift from Australia for relatives in...?

Romanc

I am *moving* to Europe, Holland/Netherlands for 5 or so months to do some schooling their. I will be staying with relatives, my fill in mum being about 37 (female) or so and the child being 7 (a boy). I am looking for gift idea's that i can take on the plane through melbourne, sydney, perth, singapore, london and paris. I want gifts that show Australia, and not really a coaster with a koala on it, i mean something a little more.. useful and Australian. I have thought of bringing them some Vegemite since i dont know if they have any there, any suggestions? Thanks heaps in advance :)

Answer
We do not have Vegemite, so you will need to bring any you will want to eat. But Dutch people do not like it. So unless your host has lived in Australia or New Zealand, do not bother to bring it for them.

In Australia you have lovely wooden things that make great gifts. Think about something to use rather than something to put on show.
Kangaroo leather is great too, but it is difficult to guess what your host will want to have.

For the child, you might go for a plastic boomerang, not a nice painted wooden one. The plastic one will likely get used, the nice one put on the wall.

Other nice gifts can be T-shirts with print, buy it a size or two big, Dutch boys are commonly tall.
A bag, again with nice decoration.
For more ideas, just walk into a souvenir shop and look, if you like the idea but not the actual item, shop around in normal shops or in craft shops, as there is a lot of quality being sold at normal prices.

I need to mail a birthday gift to australia. I'm in the usa. can i mail a lighter and lighter fluid through the mail there?
**manonthestreet1 **the sarcasm was unnecessary! as i stated i'm mailing a birthday gift!

Answer
Nothing flammable is supposed to be carried anywhere by USPS. You could try FedEx ground or UPS ground as alternate shipping methods but is very doubtfull as lighter fluid is flammable. If the lighter is empty, that should not be an issue, provided it has never been used. Best to ask questions with the carrier before trying to ship it. Best of luck.

How much to send a small package from Australia to Canada?

.

Hi :)

how much would it cost to send a package (card+small gift) from WA Australia to Canada?

TIA

Answer
That is something that only the Australian post office can tell you. As the parcel is being sent FROM Australia, you have to put postage on it before it can leave the country - and Canada has no input into the Australian postal system.

I need to order a gift basket for an Australian client. I want to choose a good company and a nice basket. But I want to make sure it gets there and it is nice. Also I don't want my credit card number to be in jeopardy.

How do duty taxes work in Australia?

Zach C

What are the allowances?

Can you ship gifts back to the USA prior to departure?

How does the departure tax work?

What's the best way to handle getting gifts/souvenirs from Australia to the USA? Should they be shipped ahead of time, or checked on board your homebound flight?

Answer
you really need to be more specific.it's no hassle to post items to the us,just do it.if you want to take it with you when you fly out you have restrictions on taking into the us more that a litre [or so] of alchohol duty free. if you want to take in more do it. declare it and pay the duty. why bother tho it's cheap to buy in us anyway.
be aware tho with the weight of your bag.anything over your allowance and it costs heaps.alternately stuff it in a wooden crate and ship 3 months ahead.
