I have just received an invitation to a 50th birthday party and it stated that no gifts were needed. Can you give me ideas on what to bring?

You can call the host for suggestions...they may resent you bringing food as it is not designated, Unless it's potluck, don't assume food will be welcome and even complementary to the food already provided.
However, it wouldn't be too bad to bring a bottle of a favorite wine or champagne.
