Should I get a visa gift card? 10 points! Thank You :)?

Q. Hi there,
I'm planning on buying a visa gift card from copps or walmart. I need to purchase some things online and this sounds like a good idea. Has anyone tried it or is currently using it? Any fees? I called Visa and they said there's just one fee when you buy it between $3-$8. But I need to know more about it. Can anyone give me some info on that?

The Pros and Cons of Gift Cards

Thereâs always a lot of fuss this time a year about gift cards. Some people love them, and some people hate them. Iâm sort of in the middle.

On the one hand, I continue to believe that anything a big company wants you to purchase is probably not in your best interest. That is, if a mega-corporation is all fired up to sell gift cards, you can bet theyâre a profit center, which probably means theyâre rigged against consumers.
On the other hand, gift cards are convenient. Theyâre easy to give, and theyâre generally easy to use. There are many circumstances in which gift cards make great gifts.
I like to receive gift cards for certain stores. Over the past year, for example, Iâve accumulated $185 in Landâs End gift cards, and I wouldnât be surprised to receive more this Christmas. I havenât used any of them yet, though Iâve checked to be sure Iâm not going to get dinged because of it. Sometime this spring, after my birthday, Iâm going to have an on-line shopping spree â and it wonât cost me a dime.

Thatâs one problem with gift cards â here are some others:

They expire. Some gift cards carry an expiration date. The recipient must use the card within a certain amount of time, or the card becomes unusable.
They have fees. Some gift cards â especially those issued by banks â carry fees for various events. Some even charge to use the card. (In August, Tim shared how a gift card from Bank of America carried fees for checking the balance.)
They can be difficult to use. Did you buy a CompUSA gift card for somebody this Christmas? Oops. CompUSA is going out of business â suddenly thereâs a very real deadline to use that card. And what if you buy a gift card for somebody but the store doesnât do business where the recipient lives? Not all gift cards are convenient.
They carry an obligation. When you give a tie to your father, thereâs nothing else he has to do use the gift. But when you give a gift card, your father must go to the store to use it. This often means that he has to spend additional money to find something he likes. Gift cards can force the recipient to spend money on his own gift!

I need to get a gift for my stepmom that ive known for like 6 years, also her sister is coming up from texas, I was thinking of getting them a gift together. Maybe a show, but the only thing playing in my area is that stupid Bob Marley (comedian). I need new ideas... By the way, they're kinda higher class women..
Also im a massage therapist, I wont work on family. It seems kinda weird to send them for a massage. And also she is leaving day after new years..

The combined gift was a good idea as long as they are close and have sometime to use it together after the holidays.

You could get the a gift card to a day spa enough for two manicures and pedicures.

a gift card for 2 dinners at a nice restaurant in your area.


Edit: If the spa idea is out then I would do the nice dinner and movie gift card. Is there a city near you where you could get the gift cards for that has more choices than just comedy?

Would you pay $100 for 10 christmas gifts?

I'm selling 10 premade gift sets on ebay for $100....they are already in gift boxes with gift tags. I was just wondering if $100 was too much? The economy is really slow right now so I wanted to make it reasonable...would you pay $100 for 10 gifts??
It is a Crabtree & Evelyn Body Lotion, Shower Gel, and Bath Sponge. They are already in gift boxes with a ribbon and gift tag attached.

Sincerely speaking, $10 per gift is really not that expensive; but you just cannot expect one person buys all 10 gift boxes.

If the gifts can be sold separately, that would be much easier for you to sell them to different people.

small casserole dish that will fit in a toaster oven, with a lid. I prefer the one with handle like a small skillet the top is glass and it's ceramic and looks like a fry pan. That way instead of messing with plastic wrap or bowl and lids it works even in the stove top or microwave oven.

My sister-in-law gave us a lovely rug as a house warming gift 10 years ago. I prefered using the old wash and rinse method of cleaning it. It wasn't anything very expensive but it was, is, lovely.

I lifted it to wash and store away for the summer but was saddened to see a thick layer of yellow dust like stuff exactly where the rug was laying. It seems the bottom layer of the rug has aged and is crumbling away into dust.

Is there anything I can do to save it?

Is this a tufted carpet? It may be the glue disintegrating. Depending on the rug, usually there's not much you can do which would be cost effective. Sometimes you can re-latex the back, but this is quite a project... Tufted rugs are really meant to be disposable
