I am from Canada and am traveling to Japan very soon and am staying with a familey. I know it is polite to bring gifts. What do you think japanese people would like as gifts from Canada?

Answer
i think they would like something that symbolizes Canada or has the word "Canada" written on it, maybe something like a souvenir magnet or cell phone strap (very popular in japan).

basically, they would like things that you can't buy in japan, so other examples would be like english CD's, Canadian toys (like beavers or moose), or limited edition coins (like Vancouver 2010 quarters).

hope that helped :D

How much duty will be charged on a lap top sent to Canada from the USA?

I sent a lap top as a gift to Canada and was told that the reciever may have to pay duty. Does any know how much they would charge and what is the limit that they won't charge?

Answer
The duty rate will be the federal tax (GST, 5%) plus the provincial rate, which in Ontario is 8% but will vary from province to province. This will be figured based on the value you declare. Sometimes they let gifts slide, but sometimes they charge duty. Good Luck! We get mail from the states and we were charged duty only once so far.
