Im trying to think of a nice valentines day gift for my girlfriend... we are together for 6 months now, and this is out first valentines day together. Im not sure what to give her from the heart for valentines day. I was thinking of making a whole bunch of different chocolate things. Dip some foods like pretzels and i make cookies she likes, dip the cookies in chocolate. With that I would give her some flowers and a card. Is this a nice idea for her??? I was also thinking of having something like the worlds largest chocolate bar or something like that delivered to her house. It would surprise her. Do I have some good ideas in mind or no???

Boyfriends and Gift-Giving?

So, my boyfriend and I have been going out for 7 months. Although our relationship is short, we have already decided we want to marry in a few years. The only problem is that my boyfriend isn't very great in the gift-giving department. So far, he tells me he only allocates $3 a month for me to buy me a rose. Other than that, he gives me cheap gifts that are usually less than $10. The problem is that he told me when we were friends that he would get his ex expensive coats and boots and spend $200+ on items which she eventually threw in the trash because "she didn't like them." He was practically engaged to her as well and they dated for a year. I feel jealous, of course, and I question whether he wants to truly commit to me. Any advice?

His guarded approach is rational. In the past as you mentioned he gave expensive gifts to a gal that just threw them away. So, He's learned that it was a waste in money. Now, he's being money smart by only giving you $3.00 roses and other low value gifts. It's possible that He's decided to have a wait and see approach with money.As his girlfriend he'll give you low value gifts and save his money. Later when you are married (as he's promised) he'll have more money to give you the fur coats as his wife. As his wife and the mother of his children, he'll also have the money saved from not giving you the expensive gifts now. Later in life, you'll appreciate his thriftyness. When you are out of work, living on one income and tending to a new born, his cheap skate actions now will have saved money in amounts that you will not have to worry about bills and tending to a new born. He's commited to marry you. this is a commitment on his part. The money and gift giving are his to do as he sees fit. It's not your money. And, while you might be jealous of the other girl, the fact that he is with you sharing his time and feelings speaks volumes. ask him about his family plans, and if he'll change his gift giving habits later when you are his wife... good luck.
