Answer
VacuVins for everyone!! These are great at eeking another day or two out of an open bottle of wine. http://www.vacuvinonline.com/wine/ You can get them at most any place that sells housewares.
Corkscrews. Something decorative and fun makes for a good gift, but something useable might be a better idea. I LOVE my ScrewPull - have had it for decades (!!) and it still works like a charm with no effort whatsoever. Many models and again, readily available http://www.lecreuset.co.uk/en-us/Products/Screwpull/Classic-Corkscrews/TM-110-Table-Model/
Cheese gifts go with wine - either actual cheese, or some fun cheese knives, or some snacky stuff that would go with cheese - capers, truffle honey, quince paste, fancy crackers.
I know you don't want wine as a gift, but here's one that is super fun - it's Sofia sparkling wine and it comes in single serve cans!! And it tastes good!! http://www.franciscoppolawinery.com/ (you have to look at wines --> sofia --> minis)
The Wine Bible is an awesome book to learn about wine. And it's pretty impressive because it is so big and so detailed. Amazon has it for $14, but even locally it shouldn't be expensive http://www.amazon.com/Wine-Bible-Karen-MacNeil/dp/1563054345
