What gift should I give to my preschoolers teachers this Christmas 2012?

ShieLaLa

I have read online about handmade ornaments, cookies, chocolates, mugs, etc. were given to the teachers during Christmas and they are a good way of saying thank you with their hard work with my son and with the other kids. I prefer a movie gift card for 2 since its inexpensive at Costco. Now I would like to ask for your opinion on this. What would you rather give?

More info: My son has 3 teachers and they have occasional 3 relievers or sub. It is a 3hour a day; 5 days a week state preschool.

Answer
I agree - teachers are most appreciative of any remembrance at Christmas time.
That being said - most of us have had our share (and more) of coffee mugs and tree ornaments and any "world's best teacher" nick-nack.

Home baked goods are always appreciated, but with food allergies, it can get a bit tricky. Many school prohibit food items made at home for various health reasons.

Honestly, gift cards are a safe gift , especially if you know the teacher is a fan of a particular store or restaurant, or coffee shop. A Starbucks gift card with a travel mug is a great idea of a teacher who needs her morning coffee to get her day started right; a teacher who is crafty would appreciate a gift card to Michael's, etc.

In any case, the fact that you are thinking of your child's teacher and her work with your son is the most important thing.

So christmas of 2012 are you going to buy gifts?

When the US Olympians go to the Olympic village, what gifts do they receive? Besides the Uniforms of course. I heard about the condoms, but what's in their gift bags? Yes, I know, if they are lucky they get a medal.

How does a married couple elect to gift splitting?

Huy T

My parents want to give me $20k, and want to avoid the gift taxI know that they can elect to gift splitting so that they can give anyone up to $28k ($14k each for 2013) a year. Can they just write me a check from their joint bank account? Is it assumed that the gift is splitted between the couple? or do they have to file some kind of paperwork saying they are electing to split gifts for the year before writing me a check?

Thanks!

I am confused as to whether it is income, a gift, etc. I don't know if I paid federal taxes on the sale of the home. I really do need to use the proceeds as income on my returns. How exactly would I do this? Or can I? We took I loss on the appraised value but we did receive proceeds... Please Help!!!

Answer
When was it appraised? If you're talking about the tax assessment, lthat's irrelevant.

Your taxable gain is only and appreciation between the time you inherited it and when you sold it, so if you sold it soon after inheriting it, there's likely no gain by the time you figure in a realtor's commission.

You still report the sale, though.

If you had it for awhile and either lived in it or rented it out, rules are different.

Can anyone tell me how to add a Target gift card to my wedding registry?

Crystal Ro

I can't add a gift card to my registry like I can add other items. What do I do to add these?
I did that but the option to buy isn't showing up when people go to the registry.
It's very common place and even courteous to add gift cards to a registry. It's not like I'm asking for cash.

What's tacky is to be completely and utterly unhelpful just for the sake of being snide.

Answer
Log in to your Target account, go to your registry settings, and under "About our registry," you can click the box that says "TargetGiftCards," which then allows people to buy them directly off your registry in any amount.

Edit- AHHH I hate people on this site!! You're right, it's MUCH tackier to answer questions just be to rude. I have yet to look at one registry and not see gift cards, it's 2012- it's not considered tacky anymore. What is it with people here who feel their opinion is better than everyone else's and NEEDS to be stated?

Anyway, for your problem, I would try going into Target soon and looking up your registry there. If the gift card option is not available, let the person behind the service desk know and they should be able to correct it.
