Q. his eighteenth birthday is coming up. we've been dating for seven months. i was going to get him a gas gift card, because gas prices are through the roof. but our friend, anne, told us that her parents are buying him a $200 gas card. sorry, but there is no way i can compete with that.
so, should i buy him a gas card of lesser value, or try to compete with her $200 gift?

Answer
First of all, please do not feel as if you have to "compete" with his parents gift! :O)
A gift is a nice thought...and one that is appreciated no matter how great or small! And parents gifts SHOULD be a bit lavish, especially on such a milestone birthday! :O) (You should see the things I bestowed on my children's sweet 16, 18, and 21!)
Personally, I think gift cards are lacking in thought...funny thing is, I love to receive them, but hate bestowing them on someone.
Some ideas...most states are legal for lottery at 18...so how about buying him a stack of scratch off tickets to "try his luck at?" I did this for my daughter's friend, and she had a winner!
Or if your states casinos are 18, buy him a bucket of gambling chips!
These are just a couple of ideas to commensorate the milestone of the birthday! :O)
If you still want to go with something to aid in the high cost of gas, maybe you could purchase some prepaid oil change cards, or a detail gift card which would allow him to get his car cleaned well?
I think 7 months is definitely ok to get your BF a gift, and not just a card! :O)

Good gift for a woman age 25 - around 200 bucks?
Q. I am visiting my brother and sister in law (age 25 yo) who are living in other country and want to buy something for both of them. I have little to no experience in buying anything for a woman. Can someone suggest good gift for a woman of her age around 200 dollars and please don't suggest something too girly to shop. I would be very happy if that thing is available on amazon.com. get set go -
Answer
$200 is a lot of money for a gift. It depends on what type of woman she is. If she likes to wear jewelry some nice earrings would be a good gift. If she likes to cook you could give her a $200 gift certificate to http://www.kitchenworksinc.com/200-Gift-Certificate__200.aspx
Or you could just give are a $200 visa gift card to buy whatever she wants from wherever she wants.
