Good homemade Christmas gifts?

Eleni

I'm looking to make some gifts for my boyfriend and family. The issue isn't really money as much as I just think they'd all really appreciate a homemade gift and knowing I put effort into it. (Especially my boyfriend) So you don't have to just suggest things that are cheap and effortless, just anything that would be a great homemade gift! Thanks!

PS. Already thought of a tie blanket, mix cd, and homemade rock candy. (And other homemade food)

Bridal shower gift vs. wedding gift?

Stephanie

What is the proper etiquette for buying gifts for bridal showers and weddings? Like, if i go to a bridal shower and buy the couple a gift should i buy the same couple a gift for their wedding. I'm just not sure if they are expecting two gifts for the same occasion, well it's basically the same occasion... Anyways, i'm just wondering what to do.

Answer
Unfortunately, the wedding gift giving just does not stop, one is now expected for every event. Engagement parties, bachelorette parties, now a present is expected for them, too. And you are right, it is all for the same occasion. If it were me, and and knowing people are splitting their budget between four or 5 gifts, I would yell stop! And tell those that are close to me to cool it, one or two, that is enough. Or get me something that costs next to no money, like a collection of tried and true recipes. And I would want artisan gifts, I got a towel for Xmas with a crochet border on it, you hang it up in the kitchen for pretty or handy purposes. I love it.

Traditionally, if the shower is for the bride, the present is for the bride. The gift used to be something to decorate or stock up her household, something that only she would use. Occasionally, it would be something just for the bride, like her favorite perfume, or a basket with soaps and bubble baths. Since the bride did not have a household of her own, gift giving was easy. The gifts might have been hand crafted, or artistic, or creative, but were never expensive. That would have been rude, you did not show up at the shower with a Cuisinart, when everybody else gave artisan gifts..

Now fast forward to 2010, there are couples showers, where a present is expected for both the bride and groom. Or the bride wants a lingerie shower. Or she already has a household, and only luxury items are on her/their registry list. And brides and grooms expect presents of the caliber of the wedding present. And brides do not want hand made artisan things.

So to answer your question, since the bride opens her shower presents at the shower, a present is expected, and will be noticed by everyone if one is not offered. And yes, a wedding present is expected too. Figure out your budget, and split it up between the presents.

Sneaky trick: some people spend the lion's share or all of the budget on the shower present, where people are there to ohh and ahh over it. And give the lesser gift, or no gift at all for the wedding, when maybe only the bride will see it.

How to send and recieve gifts in the Hunger Games Adventures?

Jacqueline

I can't figure out how to send gifts to my friends in the Hunger Games Adventure on Facebook. Could anyone please help me? Also, how do you open gifts that have been sent to you? Any help would truly be apprieciated!

Answer
I'm pretty sure there's no way to "send gifts" or "receive gifts" yet. There's a lot of development needed for the game still. As of right now there's still no inventory. I am guessing that gifting will come with the eventual addition of an inventory. Now if you're on a quest (assuming you haven't run out of quests already) and you need stuff you can click that "Ask Friends" button and if it is clicked it will automatically add that item to your count (though you'd never know it since it doesn't show who clicked it). I suggest with the "Ask Friends" thing that you share the post and then comment on the post and tag any friends that are currently playing so they will see your posts requesting items. Sorry that's all I have... Hope things work out for you!

I started volunteering for Child Protective Services and saw that most people donate gifts for little kids but not for the teens. What are some good gifts for girls and boys ages 14 - 18. Also, the burn center has children without fingers and some without arms. What kind of Christmas gifts are good for kids like that??? I am really at a loss. Thank you...

Answer
Wow I look up to you for doing what you do. Here are some affordable suggestions for teens and children with disabilities:

1. I am a child advocate supporter and I know most places have video game consoles so a new game could be something they all play: http://shopping.yahoo.com/b:Video%20Games:784712945

What baby gifts would you want to receive most?

Boycott Ho

Seems like the gifts are all repetitive and I want to give something that is different.

Answer
I would go for some other sort of help then....
Ive had 5 babies and although Ive never had a baby shower, Ive been given a lot of gifts afterwards, some that Ive used, some I havent.

It would depend on how well you know the mum. If she is family or a close friend I would make some cool Certificates.
something along the lines of

*this certificate entitles the bearer to - (make up your own hours etc) - Free house cleaning or - Babysitting (must be used before baby turns 18 years old) lol. or something along those lines.

I for one, wouldve much prefered just to have someone to talk to, as so many people think "I dont want to bother them with their new baby" when infact with my first baby, I was incredibly lonely and had hardly any visitors.

Good on you for thinking outside the square.
