I received a gift of 70,000 which I used for the purchase of my home will I have to pay taxes on that money? ?

Jaelee

Answer
No. Gift taxes are paid by the gifter not the giftee.

the IRS website says:

Who pays the gift tax?
The donor is generally responsible for paying the gift tax. Under special arrangements the donee may agree to pay the tax instead. Please visit with your tax professional if you are considering this type of arrangement.

The person who gave you the gift may not have to pay taxes on it either however, because the lifetime exclusion for gift taxes are $1,000,000.00

I don't know if this will hyoerlink, but I'll give it a go www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=164878,00.html
