I'm twelve and christmas is coming and I need some ideas. I play xbox and I play m rated games. If there's nudity I can't have it, but if it is only partial nudity I can have it. I like computers and I'm getting a netbook so id like to know the best sompany tghat does netbooks. If there are any cool USEFULL xbox accesories (not the dumb keyboard) id like to know, and if ther is any other fun thing a twelve year old should have let mo know. Thanks!

You don't even know what is ahead of you. Those games you play and the clothes you wear are made by people in slavery. Yes, you've read about it in your history book, it still happens. They don't get paid, they live to be fed maybe a little bit less than a loaf of bread a week. Guess what they do to women? Google it. Quit asking for presents, start asking for change on a regular basis. Better yet, you might have an ipod.... Google "Foxconn" the people who work to make your ipod get paid $150/month. Now, ask your parents if $150 is enough to buy groceries for your family for a whole month. Now, think, there are more things you need to buy otherthan food to survive. You need a home, electricity, water, a bed, etc. This is the modern age of slavery & you are supporting this type of slavery when you buy these products. They are not the only ones. 90% of the stuff in your room are made using the same slavery techniques.

I have no idea what to get my parents for christmas they dont hint around for anything and wont give me any ideas. They are both 51 i dont know what people their age like shiit i just turned 18. I want it to be special they are the only people i have to give gifts to considering the rest of my family are JW lol. Any ideas?

The best thing is know what your parents likes are and are into say like golf, yoga, play poker or blackjack, like reading fiction and nonfiction spy books, gardening, what are they fans of and so on. Since you didn't say or know, how about any of these things on the list.

Depressed that I'll never be a tennis player?

I am 15 & I have been playing tennis competitively my entire life. As I have always loved tennis and it's always been my top priority, the professional playing tennis career ship has sailed. Let's face it, the women on tour were already pro by my age. I do play tournaments, and I will soon reach my national ranking, but it's like, I'll never be a pro tennis player- it's not a realistic goal anymore. That bothers me more than anything. :( I just feel like no matter what I will pursue in my life, it's nothing compared to my dream of being a tennis player. I have mental breakdowns every week. I try talking to God about it as much as I can. It sucksso bad living with this weight on my shoulders. My GPAin school is declining and I'm losing interest in the things I used to enjoy as well. I don't talk to people anymore and my relationship with my family is terrible. I've just been so depressed these past few months - my dreams are gone and its so hard to feel that pain :( I love tennis so much. i have been thinking about being homeschool and playing w/ an academy but that ship has sailed

You ARE a tennis player!!! A dang nationally ranked player!! Holy $%^&. I was never nationally ranked. A lot of players never get to be; think of *them.*

I suggest you go to a sport psychologist. A very, very famous world #1 player went to one, so you could, too.

How are you defining the word "pro?" The WTA singles list has about 1000 players on it. Are they all pro's? I ask you that because 80-90% of them are losing money if they're traveling all over the world. Only the top 200 or so are earning more than their expenses.

The absolute minimum age for playing a tour-level event is 14, and they have very strict requirements about how many events a player this young can participate in. 15-year-olds can play more events than 14-year-olds, but again, there are limitations. Chris Evert "arrived" when she was 15, defeating World #1 Margaret Court, but that was *very* unusual, and it still is.

At the other end of the age spectrum, we have Kamiko Date-Krumm, definitely NOT a 15-year old!

College tennis isn't good enough for you? Geez. I thought college tennis was pretty cool.

Actually, if you're good enough to be nationally ranked in the 16's in the USA, then you are already *approaching* [on your way to] a skill level that's commensurate for the pro's. Whether that skill level is [NTRP] 5.0, or 5.5, or 6.0, I have no idea. The *bottom* 400 or 500 players on the WTA tour are roughly 6.0 to 6.5. The only ones who are 7.0 would be top 150 or so.

I would talk to a priest, rabbi, cleric, etc about it, and start attending a religious service somewhere once a week. Players on the tour have problems in this area too, and often seek help in spiritual activity. You are not alone in this predicament.

The odds of ANYONE reaching the top 100 in the WTA or the ATP are small, sort of like winning the lottery. Even if both Mom & Dad are tennis pro's, the family has bucks out the wazoo, the odds are still small of being able to participate in a Grand Slam event. It is largely a gift from God, and many of those who've made it know they are very lucky to be there. Conclusion: If you never play in the first round of a major, that means you're *normal.*

Did someone close to you say that if you don't reach the top 50 in the world, that you stink? That is TOTAL nonsense. Absolute, complete nonsense! Real tennis people would never say something like that.

Hmm, could you meet some new people at a church, synagogue, mosque, etc. Get out of the house/apartment and force yourself to socialize a little bit - somewhere. Not easy, but worth it, IMHO.

Little by little, maybe you could patch things up one or more of your family members? Hope they aren't mean to you.

Hang in there, things will eventually get better.

If you're totally burned out with tennis, you can take a few months off, as the pro's *have to* once in a while. If you haven't been taking time off, that may be a part of your problem. After some time away from it, you can either return to practice, or say goodbye to all the sporting nonsense, become an adult, and think about a real career in something serious. Serious careers are where the money is, doing something you like, that you're good at, that requires a few years of study or apprenticeship to become a "pro" at.

Or, just get involved in something that is actually *fun* for you. I have no idea what that might be [photography, pets, student government, charity work, music, art, science, etc etc etc]

In anticipation of the soon to be resurrected biblical prophets and patriarchs, Joseph Rutherford, president of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society commissioned the construction of a house in San Diego, California. This house was to become home for Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Samuel and all the rest mentioned in Hebrews chapter 11. However, when the biblical party failed to appear, the embarrassing Beth-Sarim incident had to be repressed.

Beginning in 1920, Rutherford declared, "As we have heretofore stated, the great jubilee cycle is due to begin in 1925. At that time the earthly phase of the kingdom shall be recognized." How would it be recognized? What event would trigger the ushering in of the kingdom?

Rutherford explained, "Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old, particularly those named by the Apostle in Hebrews chapter eleven, to the condition of human perfection" (Millions Now Living Will Never Die, pp. 89-90).

This was an exciting prophecy. Jehovah's Witnesses around the world anticipated their cause being justified by the physical manifestation of these biblical patriarchs. When 1925 did come, but Abraham and the rest did not, some of Rutherford's followers left the fold. Others still believed that though they were late in their anticipated time of arrival, the Hebrews 11 crew would be back shortly. Even though it had not occurred by 1929, it was still a topic of much excited anticipation.

You have either gullibly swallowed the dishonest lies of the anti-JW cultists, or you are purposely spreading lies.

There was no âprophecyâ by Rutherford nor had any other Witness ever claimed to give prophesies.

It is an irrefutable fact that Jehovah's Witnesses' very doctrine has ALWAYS been that the gifts of inspired prophesying and direct communication from God ceased after the Apostles died. And since the 1800's they have repeatedly stated in their literature that they do not foretell the future and they are not infallible.

This is a belief that has NEVER changed from their modern day inception as Bible Students to the present day.

Notice this sentence in the "Purpose" statement that appeared in EVERY issue of the Watchtower up to the mid-70's: "No, The Watchtower is no inspired prophet, but it follows and explains a Book of prophecy..."


Now, did early JW's (Bible Students) have incorrect understandings of Bible prophesy? Yes, of course, as did nearly every other religion of that age.

"The early Witnesses were trying to understand how the 16th verse of the Messianic Psalm 45:16 and Isa.32:1,2 would be fulfilled. Witnesses feel no great embarrassment regarding Beth-Sarim. As you can see it is clearly described in our publications for all to see. Witnesses freely admit that they have at times changed their beliefs. But of course even the Apostles had to change their beliefs regarding their understandings of end-times (Lk.19:11; 24:21; Ac.1:6). So any criticisms regarding Witnesses changing their understanding of prophecies would also condemn the Apostles!

Witnesses we appreciate the fact that the Scriptures said that knowledge would "increase" in the last days (Dan 12:4). So, JWs don't pay much attention to the mistaken ideas that the faithful patriarchs would need a place to live due to an early resurrection, or to any other misunderstanding by early Witnesses from 50 to a hundred years ago. Because it just doesn't matter, nor does it disprove what we believe now.

Further any criticism on this is hypocritical because EVERY religion has changed it's beliefs and practices over the same time period!

We might ask others on this forum the question: "How concerned are you about your religion's past beliefs that black people were cursed, that slavery was "Christian," and that racial intermarriage was condemned by the Bible?"

Are you embarrassed when you realize that your religion used to teach that hell was literally in the center of the earth? Or when your own theologians were denying that women had souls, or preaching that anesthesia during childbirth was from the devil?!!

Witnesses regularly study our history, but, do other religions willingly tell you about the uninformed things their predecessors believed?"


Most religions have now admitted many of their past beliefs were false, so is it fair to go back fifty to a hundred years to their religion's roots and point out everything that was wrong, especially if it has corrected it's understandings? No, although a effective debate tactic, it would be unreasonable and a logical fallacy.

The very fact that critics of Witnesses constantly resort to such ridiculous arguments only proves that they realize that they have no real evidence against our beliefs now.

Should my mom be forcing me to get confirmed?

I've been raised catholic, but religion isn't a hugely important part of my life. This year is the year I should be getting Confirmed, but I have a problem : The classes run until September, every single Sunday from 5-8 and I have to attend at least 90% of classes to be confirmed. The thing is that I already have Hockey on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Guitar on Wednesdays and Drama on Fridays. I'm afraid that making a commitment when I've already got so much on will cause a lot of stress and anxiety, especially when I feel it's not vitally important for me to get confirmed right now. However, my Mother is forcing me to do it as she thinks I should have no say in the matter. I've tried talking to her but she won't relent. What should I do?

Goodness, Cece, you do have a busy schedule. I can see why you are concerned about stress. I would be concerned, too.
Maybe you could try this. Go to your guitar and drama teachers and explain that you will need to skip their classes for a few weeks ... that you enjoy you lessons with them but that you mother wants you to go to Confirmation classes and that you canât do both at the same time. And tell them that once you have finished taking the Confirmation classes you will begin your classes with them again. Most adults, priests, and teachers will understand that you will need to do what your mother and father are telling you to do ... especially since i am guessing that you are about 11 or 12 years old since that is about the age Confirmation classes are usually give to young men and women. Most adults will not tell your parents how to raise you unless they are abusing you in some way --- like beating you or something.
If it helps you at all to know this, your mother wouldnât be insisting that you take your Confirmation classes unless she loved you ---- parents who love their children want them to learn about their religion ---- it is a gift that their parents gave them and that they want to give you, too.
I am 61 years old but it wasn't until I grew up that i finally learned that the greatest gift my parents gave me was Jesus and their Christian faith. But when I was your age, my parents had to force my sisters and me to go to Sunday school and church, too. In fact, they forced us to go until we were 16 years old ... but even then they preferred us to go. We didnât want to go just like you donât right now.
And who knows, if you have any questions about Jesus and your religion, the teacher and classes might answer them for you and your religion might become more important to you that it is now.
The reason that I suggested that you take a break from your guitar and drama classes is because hockey is seasonal so you wouldnât be able to take a break from that without affecting your hockey playing. But your guitar and drama shouldnât be affected in the least if you take a temporary break ... in fact, it might be nice for your to take a break from them ... you even might enjoy them even more when you start them again.
I hope that gives you an idea you can use, Cece. I will be praying for you and your parents.

Should my mom be forcing me to get confirmed?

I've been raised catholic, but religion isn't a hugely important part of my life. This year is the year I should be getting Confirmed, but I have a problem : The classes run until September, every single Sunday from 5-8 and I have to attend at least 90% of classes to be confirmed. The thing is that I already have Hockey on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Guitar on Wednesdays and Drama on Fridays. I'm afraid that making a commitment when I've already got so much on will cause a lot of stress and anxiety, especially when I feel it's not vitally important for me to get confirmed right now. However, my Mother is forcing me to do it as she thinks I should have no say in the matter. I've tried talking to her but she won't relent. What should I do?

Goodness, Cece, you do have a busy schedule. I can see why you are concerned about stress. I would be concerned, too.
Maybe you could try this. Go to your guitar and drama teachers and explain that you will need to skip their classes for a few weeks ... that you enjoy you lessons with them but that you mother wants you to go to Confirmation classes and that you canât do both at the same time. And tell them that once you have finished taking the Confirmation classes you will begin your classes with them again. Most adults, priests, and teachers will understand that you will need to do what your mother and father are telling you to do ... especially since i am guessing that you are about 11 or 12 years old since that is about the age Confirmation classes are usually give to young men and women. Most adults will not tell your parents how to raise you unless they are abusing you in some way --- like beating you or something.
If it helps you at all to know this, your mother wouldnât be insisting that you take your Confirmation classes unless she loved you ---- parents who love their children want them to learn about their religion ---- it is a gift that their parents gave them and that they want to give you, too.
I am 61 years old but it wasn't until I grew up that i finally learned that the greatest gift my parents gave me was Jesus and their Christian faith. But when I was your age, my parents had to force my sisters and me to go to Sunday school and church, too. In fact, they forced us to go until we were 16 years old ... but even then they preferred us to go. We didnât want to go just like you donât right now.
And who knows, if you have any questions about Jesus and your religion, the teacher and classes might answer them for you and your religion might become more important to you that it is now.
The reason that I suggested that you take a break from your guitar and drama classes is because hockey is seasonal so you wouldnât be able to take a break from that without affecting your hockey playing. But your guitar and drama shouldnât be affected in the least if you take a temporary break ... in fact, it might be nice for your to take a break from them ... you even might enjoy them even more when you start them again.
