Who gets a gift from who on wedding day?

sumomosayu

I got my parents gifts that are very personal from me. Should my fiance get them something too, or just get his own parents something? And vice versa. Do his parents get something from the both of us?
He was with me when I bought my parents gifts. They are mom and dad frames. I thought they were very sweet. But then when he started looking for his groomsmen gifts, he started wondering if he should get my parents something from him as well. We did talk about it. We just don't know what etiquette calls for.

Answer
Gifts to both sets of parents are from both of you.In the past,it was to say thank you for paying for the wedding, now it's more a token of your gratitude for their support. These gifts can be anything. The picture frames sound lovely

Wedding gift for wife on wedding day?

michael r

I was recently told that I have to give my soon-to-be-wife a gift on our wedding day. I have absolutely no clue what to get. Please post any ideas you may have. PLease try not to post jewelry because I feel that is all I ever get here. I am willing to spend up to $500.

Answer
I was going to say a charm bracelet...with one charm on it...pertaining to the start of your lives together....but if jewelry is out of the question...why not purchase a bed and breakfast room somewhere for when the honeymoon is over...a small get away....to use when you and her both feel like you need too..or if you live near an ocean or the gulf...a sunset sail boat ride...or a gift certificate to a fancy dress shop...

My neice is getting married, I want to give an amount of money that is appropriate. So how much does one gift a neice on her wedding day?

Answer
I would say it is what you can afford. A place setting of china might be aproximately $85 - $100. If you choose to give her a monetary gift, maybe incorporate it with a bottle of champagne, champagne glasses, wine and cheese in a honeymoon basket. You could put a handwritten wish with it in a card earmarked for spending money on her honeymoon. I like to wrap baskets like this in toule with a nice ribbon on top. I'd try to put some real thought behind the monetary gift. One of the things that is nice about wedding gifts is that you think of that person every time you use the item. So she will think of you every time she uses or sees the champagne glasses and remember the nice basket you assembled for her.

Did you get your new wife/husband a gift on your wedding day? (Not including the wedding night)

Answer
This is entirely up to the couple. We didn't. I didn't even think of it, but in retrospect: in comparison to the rings, promising ourselves to each other for life, and the wedding night, any other gift I gave would have seemed pretty token in comparison.

Q. My husband bought me a bottle of Crystal Champagne as a gift on our wedding day. We drank it on our first-year anniversery and now I'd like to get the label off the bottle and use the label in a scrapbook. How do I go about doing this?

Answer
I have been saving wine labels for a while, and I have not yet found a foolproof method.

These have worked in the past:
1. Hairdryer, melts some glues and does not damage the label.
2. Steam, works a little better than hairdryer, but can make some labels soggy and fall apart.
3. Hot water, first try filling the bottle, but if that does not work, submerge the bottle - downside= see #2.
4. Razor blade and a lot of patience. Get the kind you use to scrape paint off of windows, start at an edge and carefully peel back the label, working the razor underneath to separate the glue from the bottle. This works very well with some, and very badly with others. If it does work, you get the added advantage of still having glue on the back of the label, so it goes nicely into a scrapbook.
5. There are commercial wine label removers that you can find through Skymall. I have heard they work, but I have never tried them. They go on over the label and when you peel them off, the label comes with.

Good luck.

What are interesting/traditional japanese gifts for a sister to give to her brother on his wedding day?

Rou

My brother and his fiance are tying the knot this July. They are having a pseudo-japanese style wedding. The entire family is helping out, and making them a thousand paper cranes to be strung up on their big day. So, (being tragically mexican, and not really knowing much about the culture) I was wondering if there is anything you'd see a sister/sibling give their brother on his wedding day? A small favor, or maybe a kind gesture? Even if it isn't traditional, do you have any interesting ideas?

Answer
I live in japan at the moment and the MOST traditional gift would be money! Lol but everything I think of as a gift is practical. Like things from a registry. Maybe you could find a nice tea set or cool chopsticks?
