question mainly for guys: bday gift help for my bf turning 21?

~chels~

My boyfriend is turning 21 in october and is planning a trip to las vegas to celebrate (it will be just the two of us). I'm planning on giving him one gift a day for a week until his actual birthday. They're small things, not that expensive ($10-15) but I know he'll like them. I did buy a sexy lingerie set for him and I'm also paying for a little bit of the trip and giving him money to gamble with.
So what I need is a sentimental gift to give him as well. I've been trying to think of something cute, but not way over the top that he would like. Scrapbooks, picture frames, jewelry and poems are out of the question, they totally do not fit his style. Someone mentioned engraving a Zippo for him, which is an ok idea. He doesn't smoke but he is a bit of a pyro :) If I do get him that what should I have engraved that he wouldn't be embarrassed about when he pulls it out to use in front of his friends? I just want a gift that is simple and cute, not gushy. Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer
I like the gift a day idea, it sounds like Hanukkah, and takes more effort on your part than one "big" gift. Because you don't say anything about his interests, it is hard to give a good answer to this, but here's my thoughts----pretty clearly he is not someone comfortable with "girlie" sentimentality, so no, you don't want to send him flowers at work, or give him a piece of jewelry he will cringe to wear on the obligatory time he wears it to show you he likes it when he doesn't.

It sounds to me as if you have put a lot of thought, and thoughtfulness into this already. Hope he is worthy of it! (Believe me, all the guys reading this are thinking how lucky he is and wondering what the lingerie looks like when "filled".

So I'm gonna dive into the evil grown-up side of myself and tell you that the best gift you can give the boy on his 21st is to make sure he lives to add some decades to that. In other words, don't be stupid and let the bartenders get him so drunk he doesn't remember it the following day, or lack a following day entirely....thus, either make sure he knows what night he gets to see that lingerie, and be his designated driver, or do your partying at the same hotel or casino you are staying in, or get a limo. (Expensive, but kind of classy and memorable, so it might be a very sentimental gift, as you look back at the photos, and have the other Vegasites thinking you are Rock Stars.)

There have been so many deaths from the "21 for 21" idiocy that hit the news. I'm sure a google search will give you some, if you don't know about it already. You really do only turn 21 once---but---if you never turn 22, it doesn't seem to matter much what sort of wild fun you thought you were having at the time.

As for images on a Zippo (and it is a cool gift, classy, masculine and hopefully a lifetime lasting one---special engraved sheath knife is another option maybe, or other stuff like that, just do the Cabellas catalogue for ideas, or visit an old fashioned sporting goods store or hardware and ask the nicest older guy there, after explaining what you are up to and that you want a masculine but sentimental special gift.)

I would look at what images are special to him but not verbal in English, some people have Asian tattoos or other images they relate to.
You don't probably want some sort of "So and So and So and So, with the date on it....as a lifetime is a long time. If you want hiim to keep it forever, an image is a better bet, and in his mind the image will link to you and his memories of the trip forever.
Some women exhibit their possession of a man by giving him things that say "Trishia and Frank 2009", or whatever. While understandable, and also something guys do to women sometimes, it tends to mean that the gift's usefulness ends when the relationship does....and not too many people want to buy a locket engraved that way at the Salvation Army Store, either....

You sound very sweet and thoughtful, and he is lucky to get to spend his 21st with you. I think you comprehend his style because you are attentive to who he really is as a person. He should not need more than your presense at his side to have an amazing and memorable 21st. Take lots of photos. You already have it right, because your heart is right. Sentiment is knowing what your partner likes, and I think you do. LQL

Answer
It can be difficult to determine the best 21st anniversary gift idea for a couple celebrating their 21st year of marriage. With a lifetime of shared experiences and adventures, a couple married for 21 years has stood the test of time. Gifts of brass and nickel are the suggested tokens of this milestone. But, though the lists of symbolic and recommended gifts can be convenient, they are only suggestions. The best 21st anniversary gifts, of course, are those that come with a personal touch and heartfelt enthusiasm.

Brass is seen in posh decorating arenas everywhere. From wind chimes to fireplace accessories to furniture, the choices and selections are abundant. If you are looking for a more romantic gift, consider a brass corkscrew given in conjunction with a nice bottle of champagne. Perhaps a brass picture frame holding a photograph taken of the bride and groom at their wedding would be the perfect way to personalize the brass theme. Or a brass-plated photo album, filled with pictures of their adventures throughout the years.

Brass jewelry is a chic and attractive gift for men and women. Brass charms, especially, are a popular choice among brass lovers. Produced in both modern and vintage styles, they are a nice and affordable alternative to gold or silver. Or consider matching brass key-chains or rings for the anniversary couple.

Nickel, too, is a gift suggestion for a 21st anniversary gift. Brushed nickel items are especially popular today. From new drawer pulls to lamps to nickel- plated keepsake boxes, there are many choices.

The traditional wedding Quaich, available in both brass and nickel, is a lovely and unique wedding anniversary gift. The wedding Quaich, historically known as a loving cup, is an ornate cup designed for two. Couples used to share a drink from this cup, thus symbolizing their union and promise to each other. The recipients may choose to celebrate with a drink from their cup, or simply place it on the coffee table to become a conversation piece for years to come. Its rare presentation will be appreciated and admired for a long time.

The gemstone recommended as a gift for the 21st anniversary is the elegant iolite. This sparkling violet stone is also referred to as the water sapphire. It's interesting to note that the Vikings used the iolite as a secret navigation tool. By experimenting with thin slices of this gemstone, the Vikings actually discovered that the iolite possessed polarizing properties. They were then able to determine their exact position in the sea and safely navigate!

Surprisingly, these eye-catching gemstones are not rare and are therefore quite affordable. They are a dramatic contribution to the world of jewelry, as they make a breathtaking statement and very special gift.

The 21st wedding anniversary is a special time for celebrating. Whether you choose to present the couple with a gift containing brass, nickel or the ever-dramatic iolite, they are sure to appreciate your sentiment and support as they move forward to the next adventure-filled year of marriage.

5th Anniversary Gift?

Billy

I am broke(have 3 kids) haha. Wondering what all the women out there would want from their man?

Answer
The traditional 5th year wedding anniversary gift is giving a gift comprised of wood.

This can be a wooden photo frame with a picture of the two of you or include the kids in it that is blown up from your personal home computer and put inside the frame. (dollar stores sell large frames for cheap). Attach a little love note on the back of frame written on paper and include date of marriage and names.

You can also make a wooden box to store jewelry items in or buy a wooden box and add your wedding date and names on it. (craft store or walmart will have this).

If you are handy with tools like a rotozip, dremel, or jigsaw....cut a heart shape out of a piece of wood like plywood and take a permanent magic marker and add your names on it, or just write I LOVE YOU on it!

ONE LAST TIP...Right now you can go to Limoges.com and get wedding anniversary jewelry. You can get your wife a ring that has both your birthstones and get a free engraving of your wedding date inscribed and put the words forever on it or whatever you choose.

These rings are sterling silver or can be bought in 10kt. yellow or white gold and if you use the code SHAREMORE at checkout you will get 25% off plus an extra 5% off expires July 30th midnight. The ring will only cost you less $39.99 They also sell mother's rings or all inclusive rings that you can include your birthstone, your wife's, and all your kids birthstones. You can design it any way you want.

My husband and I had a mothers ring created formy mother that included her birthstone, all her children, and grandchildren with all our names on it. She loved it, and was very touched. This is why they sent me this coupon. Use it if you want to!

Hope this helps!

Happy Anniversary!

5th Anniversary gifts?

hmmmm

I saw once there was list of what you're suppose to give as gifts for each anniversary (paper, crystal, gold, emeralds, etc).
Does anyone know what the gift is for the 5th anniversary?

Answer
Wood is the traditional gift. If you are good with woodworking, you can make something. Otherwise, furniture and things like that would be great.

Silverware is the modern gift, but I'm not sure exactly how exciting that one is. Since this is your 5th anniversary, I'd guess that you received plenty as wedding gifts anyway.

If you want to get jewelry, sapphires or turquoise are the recommended gifts. Getting these depends on your budget, but I think turquiose is the much cheaper option of the two.

As for flowers, you are supposed to buy daisies for the 5th anniversary. Those probably won't be too hard to find.

Hope this helps. I found the list and these ideas, plus more here: www.happiestanniversaries.com . They seem to have a pretty good collection of ideas.
