making gifts for christmas?

psycholuv3

im running low on money this christmas so i was wondering what kind of things can i make, or what are some cheap gift items?

Answer
It's perfectly FINE to give a handmade Christmas gift!

Some things you can make (pretty inexpensively):

Scented candles

Hand-decorated Christmas ornaments

Baked goods (cookies, nut-bread, chocolate-peppermint rolls, etc.) that you can prepare ahead of time in quantity, and wrap and give individually

Small themed gift-baskets (for example, sample sizes of flavored coffee or tea, along with a nice mug, in a basket with some shredded-paper filler ... you can buy all these items at dollar stores or discount stores)

Other gift baskets, depending on the recipients likes/interests, could include a crossword-puzzle magazine and a few new pencils, or a few small kitchen gadgets/utensils and a package of recipe cards, some craft- or art-supplies.

Fruit baskets are easy (and cheap!) to put together yourself. Buy a bag of apples, a bag of oranges, any other fruit that's inexpensive ... some baskets (thrift-stores such as Goodwill often sell baskets for 25 or 50 cents!) and make your own!

Other ideas:

Cheap picture frames (again, dollar store) that you embellish/personalize ... you can use paint, glitter, buttons, decoupage ... the possibilities are endless.

Small photo albums ... include a few pictures of yourself and the friend to whom you're giving the album, leaving the rest of the pages blank ... again, you can embellish the album as mentioned above.

If you like to embroider or do cross-stitch, you can buy plain kitchen towels, potholders, etc., and personalize them that way.

If you knit, crochet, or sew ... scarves, hats, or household items are easy to make/personalize.

Just use your imagination. And don't feel like it's cheap to give a handmade gift, it isn't ... personally, I LOVE receiving a gift that someone put him/herself into!

No birthday gift = no christmas gift. Is it fair?

My boyfriend of 2 years did not get me a birthday present this year (it was in September). I asked for a horseback riding trip that ended for the year about a week after my birthday. He said he would take care of booking it....but just didn't. And I never got anything to replace it.

So I am not planning on getting him a christmas gift this year, even though he already said he got me one. I know it sounds petty, but I have no desire to be the bigger person; I want him to feel how I felt.

Curious to know what others would do in my position

Answer
Gift giving should never be a "tit-for-tat" thing. You give because you WANT to give.

But it is only a human thing to fall into doing so. I have had BF's who simply do not give gifts, and I have stopped giving them gifts. You are desiring revenge, and it is never a good motive, nor building block for a good relationship. If this is part of it, then my suggestion is to start considering getting rid of the jerk.

And in that case, NOT giving any gifts to him would be a normal part of a NON-relationship.

Have a polite day.

What are some good gift ideas for a pollyanna gift game christmas party?

Some friends and I are having a pollyanna gift giving party/christmas party. We set a $20.00 or more price limit and it's for a group of 14 years old. It's also a mixed party so I need gift ideas for something both girls and guys would like. Thanks !

Christmas is the time of year when many families spend more money than they have to create a holiday to remember for their children. With the economy in a downward spiral, saving where you can is important. Christmas is a time of giving, and this is a perfect chance to teach your children to give back.

Giving back

There are many families that are in worse economic shape than you are. Taking the family to a soup kitchen to volunteer during the holiday season will help make it memorable for everyone. It will also help your children appreciate what they have much more.
Thrift and consignment stores

Shopping at thrift stores you can find many items that can be the perfect gift for your child. Most items are gently used and look brand new. You may find the occasional new item that still has the tag on. Starting in these stores is the perfect way to find a multitude of gifts at a fraction of the cost.

Dollar stores

Looking at stores such as the Dollar Store or Five Below you can find some great gifts at a cheap price. Purchasing several of these types of gifts can help fill under the tree and stockings. This can help save money while still making Christmas look plentiful.

Pollyanna

If you have a large family buying many gifts can be daunting. A fantastic way to save money is to do a Pollyanna gift exchange. This is basically putting everyoneâs name in a hat and drawing a name of one person to purchase a gift. This will save an enormous amount of money. Instead of buying gifts for ten people you will only be buying for one person.

Cut your gift list

When economic times are good, giving to everyone can make one feel wonderful. Now may be the time to take a look at the list of people you normally give gifts to and decide who you can eliminate from gift giving. This will probably be the hardest part to do as you donât want to offend anyone. You can choose to give a nice Christmas card instead. In these times it is necessary.

The important thing to remember is Christmas is a time to enjoy your family and appreciate your loved ones. While it may be a challenge for children to understand making a memorable Christmas does not mean you have to spend a lot of money.

I am thinking to give out a good amount of small gifts for christmas and was thinking of homeless shelters but other than that can you guys think of any other organizations I could possibly give my gifts for christmas?
What I have to give as gifts is a boat load of an assortment of different winter scarfs.

Answer
I know this isn't exactly what you were asking lol but one year an old lady came up to me at the store asking if I could try on a sweater because I was about the same size as her grand daughter. I tried it on and it fit well. Then she handed me $20 and told me to buy myself the sweater because she likes to buy a random stranger a gift every Christmas. I went and bought the sweater, but it was only like $10, so with the remaining money I went and bought a little boy a toy he was looking at. it was amazing!! :)) You could consider doing something like that?

Is it ok to give someone a pre-ordered gift for christmas?

Amanda

There is a wii game I know my friend will love for christmas, the only problem is that it doesn't officially come out until 2/8. There is the option to pre-order it on amazon. Is it ok to give a print out of the pre-order as a gift for christmas, to show what will be coming for them, or is it tacky?

Answer
No, I think that is ok....give them a nice card and put a picture of the gift in the card. They will like the fact that you are thinking of them and getting them this amazing gift.
